Wyoming just approved its largest solar farm – 771 megawatts (MW) of utility-scale solar plus battery storage. Cowboy Solar I will include 400 MW of solar power and 136 MW of battery storage, while Cowboy Solar II will have 371 MW of solar power and 133 MW of battery storage. Both solar farms combined will be able to power 771,000 homes – three times the number of homes in Wyoming. Canadian energy company Enbridge plans to begin construction in March 2025, and it estimates a peak onsite workforce of around 375 workers in April 2025. It aims to bring Cowboy Solar I online in January 2027 and Cowboy Solar II online in August 2027. According to the US Energy Information Administration, Wyoming produces almost 12 times more energy – generated mainly by fossil fuels – than it consumes, making it the second-biggest net energy supplier after Texas. #utility #coal #solar #power #wyoming https://lnkd.in/gxhGav9c

Ørsted has signed an 80 MW power purchase agreement (PPA) with Bloomberg for renewable energy generated by the Mockingbird Solar Center in Texas. This agreement fully contracts the 471 MW solar project, making it Ørsted's largest solar facility and the seventh-largest project in PV Intel's recent constructions list. Notably, it incorporates conservation efforts to protect nearly 1,000 acres of native tallgrass prairies in collaboration with The Nature Conservancy. Bloomberg, Covestro, and Royal DSM are corporate customers buying power from this center. Bloomberg, part of the RE100 initiative, expects this PPA to cover 100% of its U.S. electricity use and 80% globally. The Mockingbird facility aims to produce electricity equivalent to 80,000 Texas homes, create jobs, and inject $215 million into the local tax base for economic development. Construction is set for January 2023, with completion in 2024. . . . . #solar #solarenergy #cleanenergy #commercialsolar #nationalsolarsolution

And in more Territory news, the Northern Territory Government is considering the acquisition of four large-scale solar farms near Darwin and Katherine which have not yet been connected to the grid because of concerns they could destabilise the Territory energy grid. If they did so, Power and Water Corporation would buy the projects. https://lnkd.in/g6iq2uid #renewableenergy #renewables #renewablepower #renewablenergy #greenenergy #solarenergy #solar #solarpower #solarindustry #solarprojects #bess #batterystorage #bigbattery #energystorage #energygrid #transmission #energytransmission

Yeeee-haw!!! Gather round the campfire, solar people. Let us share the news about The Cowboy solar project, a $1.2 billion initiative by Enbridge, which is set to transform Wyoming's energy landscape with its 771 MW capacity and 268 MW of battery energy storage. Wyoming is known for being part of coal country, but this huge project will soon tell a different story. Slated for full operation by 2027, this project marks a significant leap from Wyoming's 50th rank in solar installations, promising to power over three times the number of homes in the state. With construction in two phases starting March 2025, the project not only represents a major stride towards renewable energy but also a boost to the local economy, expecting an average of 285 temporary workers monthly. #SolarPower #SouthDakota #NationalGridRenewables #WildSpringsSolarFarm #BasinElectricPowerCooperative "National Grid Renewables just brought South Dakota’s largest solar farm online in Pennington County. Wild Springs is a 128-megawatt (MW) solar farm in the Southwest Power Pool, which manages the central US’s electric grid and wholesale power market. The solar farm has a 114 MW power purchase agreement with the utility Basin Electric Power Cooperative. Wild Springs is expected to provide approximately $29.5 million in direct economic impact, including $12 million in new tax revenue, over the first 20 years of operations. It will generate enough clean electricity to power the equivalent of around 37,000 homes each year. Wild Springs will avoid 190,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually – the equivalent of removing 42,000 cars from the road. Additionally, in what National Grid Renewables says is “unique” to the company, the project will also contribute $500,000 in charitable giving to the local New Underwood school district over the first 20 years of operations. Jack Trullinger, the mayor of New Underwood, said that “the predicted tax revenue along with the generous charitable contribution to the school district is a very welcome bonus.” Solar is fledgling in South Dakota and not expected to grow – according to the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), the state has 268 MW of installed solar. It’s ranked 42nd among states for installed solar and is expected to drop to 47th place in the next five years. However, the Mount Rushmore State is a wind powerhouse – in 2022, wind provided 55% of South Dakota’s total in-state net generation, a larger share than in all other states except Iowa. Overall, renewable resources provided about 84% of South Dakota’s in-state electricity net generation in 2022. The EIA points out that “South Dakota uses less total petroleum than all but two other states and the District of Columbia, but because of the state’s small population [900,000 ], it uses more petroleum per capita than all but eight other states.” ..."

Taking the next step forward in its electric generation transition, NIPSCO recently completed another solar project. NIPSCO’s latest solar facility is expected to generate 200 megawatts of solar energy. It has an additional 45 megawatts of battery storage technology. Cavalry Energy Center, a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources, developed and constructed the solar facility in White County. Cavalry Solar is now online and operating, producing energy for homes and businesses. The facility will produce enough energy to power about 60,000 homes. It is expected to generate about $25 million in additional tax revenue for White County over the life of the project. “The completion of Cavalry Solar, the third solar project in NIPSCO’s generating mix, is a crucial step in advancing our energy generation transition plan to provide sustainable, cost-effective and reliable energy now and into the future,” said Vince Parisi, NIPSCO president and chief operating officer, in a press release [https://lnkd.in/gT_U-Sav]. Cavalry Solar joined two additional NIPSCO projects – Indiana Crossroads Solar also in White County and Dunns Bridge I Solar in Jasper County. “We are pleased to work with NIPSCO on this solar project, and we look forward to continue working with them to bring additional renewable energy projects to the Hoosier state in the coming years,” said Anthony Pedroni, of NextEra Energy Resources. Other upcoming solar and wind projects in Indiana include: • Dunns Bridge Solar II in Jasper and Starke counties • Gibson Solar in Gibson County • Fairbanks Solar in Sullivan County • Templeton Wind in Benton County • Carpenter Wind in Jasper County • Appleseed Solar in Cass County Merrillville-based Northern Indiana Public Service Company has served northern Indiana for over 100 years. The company serves about 859,000 natural gas and 483,000 electric customers across 32 counties.
