For the last three years, I've been presenting the Choose Your DEI Adventure program at Gen Con and every year, I walk away with such hope and excitement. I never know who is going to show up, and I have no idea which way the conversation about a #diversity #equity and #inclusion presentation at a board gaming convention is going to go. Gen Con LLC is not a professional conference, but my presentation called "Gamifying Corporate DEI Programs" gets much higher attendance than my "What's a DEI Adventure?" presentation, which I always love. Folks are taking time away from their *fun* weekend conference to talk about how to make their workplace more diverse, equitable, and inclusive. This year, someone brought some non-gamer folks from her workplace to my presentation - including their heads of Diversity, Accommodations, and Human Resources (three different people)! I still can't quite articulate how happy that made me. At every presentation, I commit to meeting with any company, school, or local government agency to help them launch this program; and I love it when folks take me up on the offer. The Choose Your DEI Adventure program (https://lnkd.in/gWmk6Baz) is a no-cost DEI program that focuses on activating the folks that care about DEI, but don't know where to start.

Let’s clear this up: DEI doesn’t mean "didn’t earn it"—it means creating spaces where everyone has a fair chance to earn it. DEI is about removing barriers, not lowering the bar. 💡 Equity isn’t about giving handouts; it’s about leveling the playing field so talent and hard work can be recognized. Let’s set the record straight. ✊🏽 #SetTheRecordStraight #DEIForAll #EquityInAction #EarnedItFairAndSquare #EquitySings #DEIMatters

WE LOVE GROWTH. Why? Because (say it with me if you know what comes next) if you are not moving forward, you are moving backward. We grow in all the ways, all the time, and we have no plans to slow down. We live in the present, of course. That is how we crush the work. But we also keep our eyes on the horizon. Always. I'm both proud and humbled to be part of this team. Eric Cup and I have known each other for [checks notes] a billion years, and have always respected each others work, so it didn't take much convincing when he called me in late 2021 and asked me to join the team with one overarching goal: GROWTH. That wouldn't have happened without the dedication of this team and their willingness not only to get into the rocket, but to design and build it as well. Are we doing everything right as we grow? Probably not, but we are also unafraid to make mistakes and learn from them. Are we having fun? Most of the time, yes. Do we love helping our clients turn their hopes and dreams into real, tangible experiences? Uh, spoiler alert: That is why we get out of bed in the morning! Are we more dedicated than ever to this company and what it has yet to achieve? You bet your ass we are. Every day is anything can happen day at Bridgewater Studio Inc. and I wouldn't have it any other way. So, what's next?
We are honored to announce that Bridgewater Studio has been named to the 2024 Inc. 5000 list, recognizing the fastest-growing private companies in America. 🎉 This recognition is a testament to our team's relentless dedication and talent, always pushing the boundaries of what's possible. 🙌 As our Chief Creative & Operating Officer, Chris Wilson likes to say, "Every day at Bridgewater is 'anything can happen day.'" We couldn't be more excited for our future. 🚀 https://lnkd.in/dXYCx6HX

In a world where small gestures can make a big difference, let's remember the power of opening doors for each other. I am reminded on a regular basis that spending a few extra moments to connect others matters, whether it be another builder or remodeler with a prospect, or a new Professional Women in Building member. When I can, I go out of my way to help someone, knowing that it will be paid forward someday either through another connection, future client, or kind words. It is important that we are creating opportunities for connection and goodwill. I started referring prospects that didn't fit our criteria to other builders years ago, and found it an especially powerful tool after the Marshall Fire. Through this we have helped friends and collogues grow their businesses and watched them thrive. This year the PWB is also creating content around opening doors in a series we are calling "seat at the table". I have had many doors that have been opened for me by the last generation and want to move into a space where there isn't just one The House That SHE Built. Opening doors and getting women in the room is only half of that battle. So, let's keep those doors open, both literally and figuratively. Let's embrace the opportunity to make someone's day a little brighter, simply by extending a hand and saying, "After you." Together, let's build a culture where small acts of kindness reverberate in meaningful ways. Because in the end, opening doors isn't just about what we do—it's about who we are. Mark your calendars for our next PWB Luncheon, August 16th at Maggianos. More info to follow. Check out the HBA of Metro Denver calendar on their website for registration and more events! #KindnessMatters #OpenDoors #CultureOfRespect #LinkedInThoughts #PWBStrong #HBAHereForGood #HBA #NAHB #WomenInConstruction

We are Just getting started!- Hilary Doe “The key factor driving economic competitiveness today is talent – the capacity to develop, retain and attract talent of every description, from the digital cloud to the production floor.” Those were the words of urbanist Richard Florida and his team that delivered a report on Michigan last year titled, “Michigan Great Inflection: A Strategy for the Age of Technology and Talent.” Florida has long asserted the importance a creative class plays in the economic revitalization of cities. Detroit has been a wellspring of cultural creativity for generations, from music to fashion to art. But its economic vitality was rooted in heavy industry, notably automobiles. While progress is being made, more needs to be done. Detroit, and Michigan’s, shortcomings in education and public transportation come to mind. We must nurture the next generation of critical and creative minds who will lead the way in the economies of the future – and keep them here. To keep them here, we must improve transit to make the urban core more desirable for young professionals. Detroit is making strides when it comes to placemaking, which is critical at a time when many educated workers can choose where they live. These are all building blocks toward developing the vibrancy of the city in an economy where places that leverage knowledge and creativity are rewarded with wealth creation. For Black Tech Saturdays, it’s an exciting moment, one worth watching, and it will be interesting to see if the creative culture that has been established there can continue to develop, grow and find a home in Detroit. #BlackTechSaturdays WE ARE THE PEOPLE WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR! At #BlackTechSaturdays, we know breaking into tech starts with access—access to devices, the internet, education, and a community that believes in you. Yesterday, we gave 500 laptops to entrepreneurs, families, and children who needed them most. It wasn’t just a giveaway—it was a hand up, empowering our community to get further, faster, together. This was the largest laptop giveaway AT&T or Human-I-T has done, made possible by partners like David Lewis and Jennifer Jambor, MBA , who joined us in filling a critical gap. The impact was immediate. One parent, with tears in their eyes, said, “This laptop is going to change everything for my kids.” Our "Amplified Intelligence" panel, led by Hajj Flemings, featured DaTrice Clark Crosstown connection on digital access, Paris Plain Ultrium on AI for vehicle maintenance, and Achsha Jones TripSlip on democratizing field trips. Together, we’re building America’s premier Black tech ecosystem, rooted in Detroit’s resilience. We’re just getting started—so much more to come. “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” — Martin Luther King Jr. Michigan Central Newlab Gabe Middleton Johnnie Turnage Alexa Turnage City of Detroit You Can In Michigan #BlackTechSaturdays #keepgoing #togetherwecan #strongertogether #thefutureisbright #blackexcellence #blacklove #blackjoy #diversityintech #generationalwealth #detroit #blackintech #womenintech #Latinxintech #Bridgethedivide #ClosetheGap #creativeeconomy #youcaninmichigan

I experienced a blackout a couple of weeks ago ⚫ It happened when I visited the Dialog Museum in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Led by a visually impaired guide, we were taken through dark rooms that gave us insights into the day-to-day challenges blind people face. We learned how to find a bin in a park or read the clock, as well as more complex tasks such as crossing a street or paying for a drink at a bar, all without the use of sight but luckily in a safe environment. This experience was emotionally overwhelming yet incredibly valuable and I learned three key lessons: 💡 The importance of an expert: Our guide shared useful tips that we would have been lost without. It's crucial to have experts who understand the challenges to find solutions. 💡 The challenges of the environment: Since this experience, I have been more aware of the difficulties visually impaired people face in navigating their surroundings. Many challenges still need to be solved, and we can all do our part to make the world more inclusive. 💡 The power of community: Despite not being able to see each other's actions, our group of seven looked out for one another and communicated constantly. We had to rely on each other and support those around us. Awareness is the first step toward change therefore I am very grateful for this experience and to learn even more about my blind spots from experts on diverse topics during our diversity month at Bolt. As concrete actions are always the best, I am sharing a practical tip in the comments 👇 What is your advice for a more inclusive world that everyone can easily bring to life? #diversitymonth #diversityatbolt
