Energy storage company 1414 Degrees Ltd has commissioned its SiBox Demonstration Module (SDM), marking a key funding milestone in the SiBox Development Agreement with Woodside Energy Technologies. The commissioning phase involved extensive trials, demonstrating the SiBox molten silicon energy storage system’s ability to convert electric energy into a controlled very hot air stream suitable for industrial processes. The SiBricks silicon storage media in the SDM showed excellent energy storage performance, successfully undergoing 32 cycles of phase change, according to the company. 1414 Degrees Chairman Dr Kevin Moriarty said: “Over the next 12 months, we anticipate that SiBox will emerge as an important emissions reduction solution for the industrial sectors that manufacture the infrastructure of our societies. “With financial support from Woodside and the Australian Government Modern Manufacturing Initiative, we are well-positioned to make significant contributions to industries’ transition to clean energy. “Our expertise in converting renewable electricity to zero-carbon heat, can help them tackle their unique challenges of high temperatures, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.” #manufacturing #australianmanufacturing #energystorage #renewableenergy #renewables #thermalenergystorage #thermalenergy

“SMUD [Sacramento's utility provider] is on a bold journey to eliminate all carbon emissions from our power supply by 2030 without compromising our world class reliability and rates that are consistently among the lowest in California” said Paul Lau, CEO & General Manager of SMUD. Well said! This is what leaders do - set a vision of the future that makes it clear which actions need to be taken. Paul said this after the delivery of 6 ESS Warehouse battery storage systems. These are long-duration, 12 hr flow batteries. Paired with renewables, you have multi day storage. Not only do these flow batteries last all day but they are made from iron and saltwater - abudantly available, nontoxic and cheap. https://lnkd.in/esGtjAQK

Life's irony: I graduated with a degree in Nuclear Engineering in the late 90's. I wanted to work on a Fusion reactor and solve the world's energy shortage. Unfortunately, at the time, there were no appropriate nuclear engineering jobs available for me... The irony is - it took me to join Oxy's CO2 Direct Air Captuting (DAC) project to finally explore how the Nuclear Fusion reactor technology can help with our DAC technology!!!
TAE Technologies’ approach to fusion will have an impact beyond the consumer power grid ⚡ With fusion’s potential to provide clean, safe and continuous on-demand energy, we can provide commercial power and the emissions-free heat needed to decarbonize industrial manufacturing and other energy-intense technologies, like Direct Air Capture (DAC). It’s why we’re thrilled to announce a new memorandum of understanding with Oxy Low Carbon Ventures to explore commercial opportunities that use our fusion and power management innovations to provide carbon-free power and heat to Oxy’s Direct Air Capture facilities. “Oxy Low Carbon Venture’s desire for emissions-free energy makes this the perfect moment to explore the deployment of our commercial-ready power management products, while the growing demand for large-scale power generation can be served by our future fusion offerings,” said TAE Technologies CEO Michl Binderbauer.
