Searching for new energy storage solutions is one of the KNESS’s focus areas. We are interested not only in developing technologies but also in developing the energy storage market through active participation. At the Energy Storage Central Eastern Europe Summit, held in Warsaw on September 26-27, KNESS representatives had the opportunity to explore international best practices and new visions of energy storage technologies, as well as analyze the specifics of market regulation in each country. Among the issues discussed at the summit: 🔸 analyzing outcomes of launching pilot projects with ESS 🔸developing options for the implementation of ESS construction projects to provide ancillary services and balancing services in Europe 🔸the possibility of conducting auctions for the long-term procurement of ancillary services in the Ukrainian ancillary services market

Our take at Clean Energy Associates (CEA) on the U.S. Dept. of Commerce's Final Determination in the #solar anti-circumvention investigation. Key take away: This is far from the end of the U.S. solar market. Commerce has made it so that SE Asian manufacturers can avoid import duties on PV modules by switching out their bill of materials to mostly non-Chinese components. This both forces certain solar supply chains to move out of China and allows the imports that we need for a growing solar market to continue. This is a win-win for diversification and ongoing deployment. #energytransition

Chart of the week: China installed more than 30 gigawatts (GW) of new power-generation capacity in July, the highest monthly total of 2023 and the most in a single month since December last year. About 20 GW was new solar capacity, advancing the country’s accelerated push to produce more electricity from utility and rooftop photovoltaic installations. About 6.5 GW of the new installations were thermal generation capacity – plants that produce electricity from gas, coal, bioenergy and other liquid fuels. – The Energy Week Central Asia and Mongolia 2023 to take place in Astana on Sept. 19-20 will focus on advancing clean and renewable energy initiatives in the regions. The conference highlights the region’s significant potential in solar, wind, and hydroelectric power, and its cooperation with international companies to transform Central Asia into a clean energy hub.

In 2022 Spain was the largest photovoltaic market in Europe and fifth in the world in terms of annual installed capacity with over 8.4 GWdc of new PV capacity was installed. The self consumption segment increased by 108%, reaching 3 GWdc, while 5.4 GWdc new capacity of ground-mounted plants was installed. The vast majority of this new capacity was introduced without any type of aid or regulatory remuneration scheme.
