The HC opened the 54th Session of the #HumanRightsCouncil today making a passionate appeal for action. " ..Across 111 countries, 1.2 billion people, nearly half of them children, now live in acute, multidimensional poverty. They represent almost 20% of those countries' populations – and according to the World Bank, many millions more will be pushed into extreme poverty as a result of climate change. This is a terrible collective human rights failure." Why are we unable to act? even knowing it is for the better good...why is this much needed brave, bold and selfless action so difficult.. given our own articulation of a vision of --we the peoples, #leavenoonebehind, #equalityforall #peaceandprosperity. time for turning #SDG16 into reality and for reforming the international financial architecture and being inclusive in decision making.

We know these explorations and the feelings they evoke are not always easy but thinking critically about our systems and making space for reflection and action, is how we can make progress towards equity in our communities. From meta-analyses demonstrating clear impact to ongoing monitoring data to sharpen our programs, we have seen the power of evidence to shape poverty interventions that work. Understanding structural inequality is so important, and I’m happy I’ve forced myself to make time and do some reading about it because it really does impact us all. It's not just an issue for people from marginalised groups. It’s a societal concern that influences our economies, communities, and collective future. When certain groups are systematically held back, we miss out on potential innovations, leadership, and advancements that could make our world a much better place.
