As an SPP airport, we have found that the benefits of privatized screening outweigh any perceived disadvantage. As TSA continues to cut important programs due to funding issues, the Screening Partnership Program should gain increased interest for those looking for ways to save funding while providing a higher level of security screening. GAO previously reported an average cost savings of 11% over TSA screeners at SPP airports. The savings could result in the ability for TSA to continue programs such as Aviation Worker Screening, LEO Reimbursment, 3rd Party Canine, and VIPR.

From a Brazilian Airport to OT! ✈️🧳 Recently, on a personal trip in Brazil, an airport poster about the Baggage Handling System caught my attention.✈️📦 I never proactively thought about it but the Baggage Handling System (BHS) at airports, with its conveyor belts, sorting machines, and scanning systems all working in harmony, is an additional example of Operational Technology (OT). Securing OT, especially in critical infrastructures like airports, is of utmost significance. 🛡️🔒 The equation is fairly simple: Lost luggage = unhappy passengers 😖 Compromised BHS due to cyber threats = unthinkable turmoil 🚫💥 Potential consequences of cyber threats, such as baggage misdirection, operational delays, or even shutdowns, underline the importance. Global chaos has erupted as a major bug in CrowdStrike has sparked outages across the world. Among those impacted include airports, airlines, banks, and more. According to ABC, "American Airlines, United and Delta asked the FAA for global ground stop on all flights, according to an alert from the FAA on Friday morning and, as of 6:25 a.m. ET, at least 540 flights in the U.S. have been cancelled." Reports continue to flurry in from hospitals, government agencies, and others which have all ground to a halt due to the global outage. Many have reported having to go one-by-one to business computers to try and restore services.
