🌼 First Week Of The Summer Term … Completed It🌟 As we bid adieu to the first week of the summer term, it's a moment to pause and appreciate the multifaceted journey of remote work. From the highs of connecting with exceptional educators - there have been so many this week, and forging meaningful partnerships with outstanding schools - some great connections over the last few days, to navigating the occasional challenges of recruitment, every twist and turn has added depth to the experience and growth in this sector. It’s truly been one for the books this week with laptop malfunctions, boiler breaks and thunderstorms that a certain Goldie Furchild was not impressed with, but we’ve made it to Friday! Amidst the hustle, the simple joys of springtime walks in the countryside sunshine with my trusty sidekick, Brady, have been a refreshing reminder to stop, take a breath and step away from the screen when things aren’t going my way or, as most cases within recruitment, when things are frustratingly slow and we’ve hit a wall. It’s okay to hit pause and take a moment - we’re only human after all! 🐾 Now, as we eagerly anticipate a weekend filled with relaxation and sizzling BBQs, (rain never stops a British barbie!) let's remind each other to set time aside for ourselves and physically and mentally re charge! ☀️🍔 Have a great weekend everyone! 📧 [email protected] #Recruitment #Education #Teachers #WorkLifeBalance #RemoteWorking

I'm no expert on dyslexia, and I probably should learn more about it. But after working with Mat for years, I can honestly say that spelling errors and such just don’t matter to me. I hardly notice them, and even when I do, it’s always easy to understand the message. On a related note, one of the best things about the rise of generative AI is how it supports accessibility. A colleague of mine, whose first language isn't English, shared with me that before AI, they would spend hours perfecting emails to make them sound ‘professional.’ Now, thanks to AI tools like Copilot, they can focus on their ideas, and the AI turns them into polished English with a click.
Do typos matter? As a dyslexic in the modern workplace, I'd love to know what you think... Is it okay to have some typos/misspellings in messages and posts like this? Does it actually matter as long as you get the gist and what ever is being written is understood? Do you personally perceive errors as lazy/rude/unprofessional? Do you not even spot them or care? I don't think there is a right or wrong answer but I am curious to know what the 'common sense' is. I am dyslexic and find it really hard to spot them for a while after I have typed something. This is because when I re-read before I hit post/send I 'see' what I meant to write and not what I actually wrote. Sometimes straight after posting, sometimes when I come back later and see what I wrote I spot errors and I have a facepalm moment but over the years I have come to accept it as just part of 'me'. That said, I tend not to post publicly very often in case I do post with errors and they get spotted and judged poorly. However, I thought I'd try an experiment, be bold, put my poorly written self out here, and see how it goes. What I will say it that working at the Met Office, the people I work with from the top to the bottom of the organisation appear to be understanding of this and either pretend not to notice, don't notice or check back if something is unclear. This means I can focus on what I am good at: Leading our Technology teams to provide trusted IT services that underpin our purpose and help people to make better decisions to stay safe and thrive. Rather than spending a lot of time checking, red reading, editing, re-editing my consistently challenging time consuming written comms and so on. Incidentally, if you are reading this looking for a role in Technology where you get the potential to work with everything from mobile to cloud to supercomputers and everything in between. In an organisation that values your contribution, is inclusive and helps your play to your strengths, please do keep and eye on our careers pages for job opportunities. #greatplacetowork #earlycareers #techforgood #dyslexia

As another school year approaches, I find myself feeling a mix of emotions and a touch of bittersweetness. As a working mother of two, getting back into the routine is something I look forward to. Structure is beneficial for both the kids and me. It brings a sense of "normal" that is good for us all. However, this routine comes with its own challenges. One of the biggest trade offs is having to adjust my work schedule again. I've loved starting work early and finishing up a little earlier than normal over the summer, but I will now be going back to starting a little later due to the school run. Ensuring my kids get to school safely and with a smile on their faces (after screaming at them 10 times to put their shoes on) is really important to me. So, while I may have to start my workday later and finish later than I'd prefer, it's a sacrifice I'm more than willing to make. Thank goodness for flexible working! Flexibility is so important to me, it might mean squeezing in emails during the morning drop off or adjusting my evening routine. It's not always easy, but being there for my children during these important moments is priceless. Here’s to all the parents out there balancing the juggle of work and family life.🎒💪 Take a look at these fantastic resources from Leaders Plus covering ➡ setting boundaries ➡ flexible working And many other important topics for working parents: https://lnkd.in/dqSszx9Q #BackToSchool #ParentingAndCareer #WorkLifeBalance

On going to the office. Too often, when I go to work, I find that I sit in front of a screen - and do the same things that I would as a remote worker. Don’t. If you sit in front of the screen all day, you miss the benefits of collocation. So. When you go in to the office, take some time to … Schedule lunch with colleagues Take a walk around campus Meet in person with students Eat at the Mensa Sit outside in the sun Working on site is not meant to be a prison, it’s meant to help you form relationships, develop social capital needed to do hard things, and provide you a sense of space in a quickly moving world. So take advantage of that time - if you do - you will see it less as a chore and more as an opportunity to enhance your academic life! #academiclife

"Every time I stray away from my plan, the decision to start it over can only be had if your plan allows it." Jacob L. Doyle things like: -"Ill be there" can always be followed by a 100% in your plan. -There is no quitting early use hours of time to dedicate yourself to your office or home. Ex. 6 hours of work at the office today. Weather you get it all done or not the day will be satisfactory. -The physical demand of working in an office or a yard has an equality that can be difficult for most to compare. -When people offer help they are always ready to render, taking breaks or going home early should be considered a strength. -Taking advice, receiving advice or giving advise about something you are good at is always easy. "Always to be confident with intention" Jacob L. Doyle

What does the future of work look like? Employees tell me again and again they want to be evaluated on *outcomes*. And trusted to work in a way that that gets them there. They know their best work doesn’t look like… … being forced to go into an office … or working late nights … or showing up at last minute meetings after hours. And while companies are refusing to re-think how they evaluate work. Those employees are *redefining* work for themselves. This is why we see SO many caregivers leaving big corporate roles to start their own consultancies. Where they define good work. And then go back and charge the same companies they used to work for a lot more to do it 🙂 (It looks a lot like mompark™. Thanks for creating a home for it Diana Carter!) –– Sundays is an executive assistant service for working parents. We help parents have meaningful careers *and* families.

What is your story? As we transition from the flexibility of summer to the structured days of the school year, let's take a moment to share and celebrate the unexpected joys and challenges of remote work with children at home. 🏠👨👩👧👦 I'll go first. I am on a conference call with a new client..... My 4 year old comes over and puts something in my hand. It took me a second to realize it was hair. HAIR......... I immediately stop talking, and say "What did you do????" "I had hair in my face, so I decided to cut it." My co-worker picks up the meeting while I went to find the scissors and assess the damage. As we enjoy the quiet that comes with the start of the school year, let's share our stories. What is the most memorable thing your child did during a meeting this summer? Your tales of resilience and adaptability are not just entertaining, they are inspiring! 💼🚀 #RemoteWork #WorkLifeBalance #BackToSchool #FamilyFirst #ShareYourStory #BestBuy #BestBuyBusiness #Technology #WorkingMom
