MTAA Report Reveals Urgent Need For Government Action On Skills The Motor Trades Association of Australia (MTAA) is calling on the government to urgently address the skills shortage affecting the automotive repair and services sector, describing the problem as an “escalating crisis”. According to a report compiled by Deloitte Access Economics on behalf of the MTAA, more than 2,000 positions were advertised in 2023, with less than 800 filled. The average industry fill rate stands at 39 per cent, significantly below the 67 per cent threshold set by Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA) to designate an occupation as being in shortage. Salary Sacrifice Specialist @ Vehicle Consulting | Get a hybrid and EV car salary sacrifice scheme for your business.
Benefit in kind (BIK) makes a big difference to the price on salary sacrifice cars. this is a tax you have to pay if you get a car through salary sacrifice. It is calculated as a percentage of the value of the car and you have to pay this over the period of your lease. Example: Full electric car - 36 month contract... Car value: £50,000 BIK @ 2%: £27.77/month Hybrid car - 36 month contract... Car value: £50,000 BIK @ 12%: £166.66/month Petrol car - 36 month contract Car value: £50,000 BIK @ 31%: £430.55/month As you can see the BIK on electric is much lower. This is the real reason people are getting electric cars. Learn more about salary sacrifice, watch the rest of my videos 👇 🔵https://lnkd.in/dyTcrRSj #ev #salarysacrifice

The news that so many roles at Lookers are at risk is concerning. At any time of year, redundancies are difficult, but at Christmas, particularly as the cost of living squeeze continues to grip, the pain will undoubtedly be felt more keenly. It seems contradictory that the automotive aftermarket can still experience redundancies at a time when a skills shortage is engulfing the industry. However, this does act as a silver lining to all those affected. The fact is demand within the aftermarket remains strong while the pool of skilled talent is depleting. If you have the skill set, then the industry needs you. There is little doubt that any type of job loss is distressing for those involved but Autotech Recruit could be a port in a storm for many. Demand is high for skilled people, particularly Vehicle Technicians and Service Advisors, and our consultants, who largely all originate from the automotive industry, can help place people into work quickly. Along with our recruitment consultants, earlier this month, Finn Molloy joined the Autotech Recruit team as a dedicated Recruitment Headhunter and is here to support anyone who is looking for work: [email protected] #cardealer #automotivejobs Autotech Group #vehicletechnician

Strong move from American Honda Motor Company, Inc. to significantly enhance not just its basic pay but overall benefits, including adding student loan repayment and childcare reimbursement. The company recognizes that it's cheaper and more effective to keep the workers they have than go out and get new ones, and they're smart enough to understand that it's the totality of the package that attracts people - not just the dollar number on the job. In particular, student loan repayment is an area that is ripe for companies to get involved in. Student debt is a signficant mental health barrier for large numbers of recent (and not so recent) graduates, and relieving some of that burden will go a long way to enhancing perception of an employer at relatively low cost. #employeeengagement #benefits #toyota

#Law ; Business ; Reforms At a very basic level the employment relationship begins with a contract which is based on free will of the employer and employee (worker). But the law for labour in India insists that an employer wanting to close his business and therefore terminate the employment relationship has to seek Government permission. Alternately the workers must voluntarily retire albeit with a higher negotiated settlement. But what if neither happens then we are left with a hopeless situation. GM has quit India and its plant in Talegaon has remained closed for more than two years. The government has not given permission as yet. The workers have not accepted the lucrative settlement offered. They insist the new buyer of the plant should absorb them. The buyer Hyundai has cleverly purchased only the assets of the plant and not as a going concern. The Bombay High Court has asked GM to pay 50% salary to the workers in the meanwhile. The SC has confirmed that while adding that a mediated settlement between the workers and GM should be reached. Meanwhile the workers have threatened to go on strike if the new buyer does not hire them.

So this week saw another local haulier go into administration. I saw that 463 hauliers in the UK went 'bust' in 2023. That's staggering! For people that don't know the industry here are some numbers. The rates from customer are the same they have been since 2016 and in some cases gone further back. With a lot of customers/shippers paying £500 a day to do 300 miles with a truck it's just not profitable. especially if the truck is only doing 8.5mpg. At the current fuel cost its around £200 a day in fuel alone. the average driver will cost about £150 a day. without pension/NI / holiday pay truck rent/ finance is around an average £100 a day (£500 a week) that's £450 a day gone before taking into the other costs of having a truck. insurance tax and No mechanical failure/ tyre blow out taken into account Mortgage / rent has gone up at an alarming rate, Alot of drivers are being paid just above minimum wage and in April the wages will go up meaning more hauliers will possibly collapse unless the suppliers stop being greedy and sharing some of their profit. We keep hearing how the cost of everything in the shops is more expensive but non of that extra cost has been passed to the transport side of this expense. It's just crazy and scary how anyone is able to run a truck these days on day rates. This Industy needs to find a way around this and fast. Even the specialist hauliers (wide load, chemical etc) are being told to cut rates as they are too expensive... Year's ago I was told on numerous occasions I was quoting too much and that certain hauliers could do it cheaper. Those hauliers did do it cheaper are sadly no longer here. Take that as you will.
