Geographic Atrophy 101 with Dr. Deepak Sambhara Geographic Atrophy represents the final stage of dry age-related macular degeneration which is an eye condition that impacts the macula of the #retina, significantly affecting your central vision, which is what you see directly in front of you. However, your peripheral vision, or what you can see to the sides, remains intact. While the exact causes of the eye changes leading to geographic atrophy remain uncertain, researchers believe that a part of the immune system known as the complement cascade is involved. In this video, Dr. Sambhara explains how the complement cascade works and how recent therapies for #GA aim to slow down the progression of this disease.
