Eight public broadcasters from northern and western Europe have teamed up to launch New8, a co-production and broadcast collaboration that will yield eight annual scripted dramas to be broadcast in each market. Partnering in this continental collaboration are ZDF (Germany), NPO (The Netherlands), VRT (Belgium), SVT (Sweden), DR (Denmark), YLE (Finland), RÚV (Iceland) and NRK (Norway). The news was announced at a MIA Market presentation in Rome on Tuesday. Building on content sharing agreements that have long been in place across the Nordic and Scandinavian territories, this new pact will widen to include German and Flemish/Dutch speaking countries, bringing the European Broadcast Union partners into a three-year accord effective immediately. Under the plan, series given the go ahead this year will be available to all New8 partners by 2024, substantially boosting the footprint and viewership of premium European fare. Source: Variety

Did you know: When you're working with a Voice Actor to finish your new TV/Radio/Streaming commercial, there are 2 words that will IMMEDIATELY scare off most of the biggest or most qualified voices from wanting to work with you. Those words are: In Perpetuity If we voice with one company that wants to use our voice in perpetuity for their commercial, that means that if a similar/rival company approaches us to do their commercial ANYTIME in the future, we could automatically be disqualified from doing it. The more these pile up, the harder it is for Voice Actors to make a living 😲 By making sure that you have well-defined terms of use for your ads using actors' voices, you increase your chances of getting the absolute best talent for your job and your business!

European Television and VOD Markets Analyst at the European Audiovisual Observatory of the Council of Europe
From Television Business International: Eight #public #broadcasters across #Europe including #Germany’s #ZDF and the #Nordic five have joined forces to create a new co-commissioning club that aims to coproduce eight #scripted projects each year. New8 is seeking projects across genres and will pool the resources from ZDF (#Germany), NPO (#TheNetherlands), VRT (#Belgium), SVT-Sveriges Television (#Sweden), DR - Danmarks Radio (#Denmark), Yle (#Finland), RÚV (#Iceland) and Norsk rikskringkasting (NRK) (#Norway). The collaboration, unveiled at MIA | Mercato Internazionale Audiovisivo in Roma today, will see producers pitching #shows to #drama chiefs at their local #broadcaster who will then present projects to other members. [...] The deal will initially last for three years with the first #series to be greenlit in 2023 and available for #broadcast in all participating territories from 2024. The scheme comes at an opportune time for producers across north-western Europe, which have seen #streamers – both #local and #global – slashing #spending in the region over the past year. Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max ended its spending on local #originals last year and local #streamer Viaplay Group cut back sharply on its drama output earlier this year [...]. “When we started talking about this it was more about competition, [...]. Now it is about sustainable partners for our local industries – they can rely on us staying and not disappearing, that is now more important than anything,” [said Anna Croneman, head of drama at Sweden’s SVT]. #coproduction #televisionproduction #filmproduction #publicservicemedia
