Happy Friday! Well, today September 1st, 2023, is a very special day because today, after 16 years, is my last day at UserZoom (now part of UserTesting). Wow! Feels pretty surreal but also amazing, actually. We’ve accomplished so much. So tonight you can bet I’ll be celebrating it with a great bottle of Rioja and with the family ;) I’ve been in this business of #UX, having founded and scaled two companies in the space for about 25 long years! I’m extremely proud of all that has been accomplished in this journey, and most of all, I feel incredibly thankful for the opportunity. I’ve learned SO MUCH! Taking a quick look at the 16-yr-long ‘UserZoom Masters Program’, as I always liked to characterize it, here are some highlights: > Pioneered the remote, cloud-based Usability Testing / UX Research space, back in 2007 > Bootstrapped from $0 to $12M revenue (that was… tough. Trust me) > Reached $100M ARR in 2022 > Raised about $150M in capital along the way > Acquired 4 companies > Helped 60% of F100 brands collect and manage UX insights to deliver killer digital experiences > Published the book: The Digital Experience Company: Winning in the Digital Economy with Experience Insights > Awarded 3 technology patents > Sold to Thoma Bravo for $810m in April 2022 > Merged with our long-time competitor UserTesting in Q1’23, a now >$300M revenue #Experience #Research category leader (of which I’ll remain an investor and a fan) …And the two that honestly make me the proudest: NRR (Net Retention Rate) = 123% eNPS (employee Net Promoter Score) = 50 Note: Both achieved during the challenging pandemic years Regarding this last one, it’s the #CULTURE we built at UZ that’s most definitely the single biggest accomplishment I’ll take with me. As Peter Drucker said, ‘culture eats strategy for breakfast’. And while at UZ we actually had both, the culture we built was simply amazing. To this point, I’d like to thank all the amazing PEOPLE that have made this journey possible, especially those that have gone through the ups and downs and have stuck with us. First of all, every UserZoomer, then our customers and investors. THANK YOU all from the bottom of my heart. I’m so lucky to have worked with you. I don’t ever take it for granted. I’ll forever be grateful to you all. I’ve just turned 50 earlier this year and I feel this transition is perfectly aligned with this special birthdate. 😀 I’m going to chill for some time, be with the family, play a lot of basketball... and just let time guide me to the next chapter. But the fact is that I’m already doing something I find almost a real responsibility, a must-do for me at this point: Help other startups become successful scaleups. It’s a TRUE PRIVILEGE being part of an entrepreneurial journey like this and especially ending it this way. I feel grateful, proud, healthy, and ultimately, extremely HAPPY! Can’t wait for the next chapter in my life. I’m just as excited as ever. THANK YOU.

Partnering with distribution leaders to drive profitability, growth, and a competitive edge with tech that challenges the status quo | Consultant | Speaker | Podcaster | Managing Director
In one of my first interactions with Nathan, he shared with me that he "wants to learn and do *all the things*." What was funny, is that I didn't have to ask him to explain what he meant. It just made sense. 💡Because he put into words what I've been feeling for a long time. I'm curious for Nathan to provide his point of view on this (nudge nudge). For me it's this: - I've always had a variety of interests. - I like basketball. I like software. - I like listening to rock. I like listening to Taylor Swift. - I like big strategy. I like minute technical details. - I like analytics. I also like UI/UX. - I like learning about warehouse management best practices. I also like learning the intricacies of pharmacy order management. In summary: I want to learn and do *all the things* too. I think there will always be a place for the specialist in business and software. I also think that the future is increasingly belonging to the impassioned, curious generalist. Thanks for reminding us to stay curious, Nathan Henry!

Come join us for some fun conversations with interesting people in and around the design community. This will be a casual and interactive meetup with a few drinks and nibbles for anyone interested in design thinking. Our meetups are about having fun and enjoying each other’s company while sharing and learning from each other. We start with about 45 minutes of networking before getting into the content. It's a great way to make new friends, stay connected with old friends, and the focus is on bringing the community and ecosystem together. We're organising people to be on the panel now... if you're keen to be involved or if there's someone you'd love to hear from, let us know! This event is proudly in collaboration with UserTesting and they're making it free for everyone to attend! The meetup will be hosted by Ben Pecotich. Ben's a designer, coach, and the co-founder of SydDT (and the founder of Dynamic4). He plays at the place where design, regenerative innovation, and wellbeing meet. What's SydDT? Sydney Design Thinking is a diverse community of 8,500 members. We've been meeting monthly since 2015 in Sydney to explore the world of design thinking as a human-centred design approach to innovation and solving complex problems - to help create positive outcomes for people, our planet, and business. We're one of the top 3 design thinking meetups globally. SydDT is all about helping build a connected community of people from a diverse range of design and business practices, industries, contexts, and roles… to learn and share. To get exposed to what others are doing and be inspired. Yunmie Kim 🏝 is returning to Sydney next week and she's ready to speak at your events. Got a lead? Let's connect! 🇦🇺 Well, if there's an inside joke or memorable moment between Yunmie and me, it would be this: Yunmie clearly doesn't need me to steal the show! After a knock-out presentation at 'The UX Conference' in London, Yunmie is headed back to Sydney, Australia next week. You may recall that I failed to make our last speaking slot due to traffic delays, leaving Yunmie to handle the stage by herself. And handle it she did—masterfully! So when people say, 'Yunmie did alright without David; she can manage,' they're stating a fact, not a joke! The interest in StoryTribe is skyrocketing. From beta sign-ups to businesses showing keen interest, we're on an upward trajectory. 📈 So here's the deal: If you're in Sydney and you know of an event, workshop, or gathering where Yunmie could shine even brighter, we want to hear from you. 💌 Join us in making StoryTribe a success in Sydney and beyond. Your connection could make all the difference! 🤝 #StoryTribe #UX #Australia #Sydney #Innovation #Teamwork #Storytelling #storyboard #startup #networking #conference #speaking #speakingengagements

Stimulate innovation through collaboration! This post dives into the power of collaboration between UI/UX, Dev teams, and other stakeholders to drive production innovation. Big thanks to my manager Renee Bouwens for suggesting this topic! It took a little effort to do the research and write this in a workable format, but the knowledge I gained along the way was worth it. Head over to the blog to find out how: 👉 Encourage seamless operations across all product groups 👉 Bridging the gap between design and development 👉 Create content that users love and businesses need Let us know your thoughts in the comments! 🤘 #mediumpost #aboutteamwork #Innovation #storytelling
