In the Network of Erasmus Mobility Consortia we work towards one goal: Promoting internationalization in education as a tool for achieving curricula goals.
Over the past few years, my inbox has been overwhelmed with daily requests for job shadowing, creating an unmanageable workload for our team. To address this, we introduced an annual job shadowing week, which was a success this year.
This week, in Essen, we discussed this concept with 30 coordinators from 11 different countries. By organizing job shadowing weeks at different institutions each year, we can optimize resources and maximize our impact. Participants gain exposure to multiple institutions, leading to a more comprehensive exchange of teaching practices. This approach also involves students, infusing the school with an international atmosphere during the job shadowing week. Hopefully, the course in Essen will give birth to more job shadowing weeks across Europe in the next school year.
In Essen we also discuss quality standards in international courses for teachers. International courses should offer unique experiences that local courses cannot, such as international exchanges and benchmarking perspectives. Standard didactics can be covered in local courses, but international courses achieve their mission only if they empower participants for international exchange, international co-teaching, leading international exchange of students etc.
By collaborating, we can significantly enhance our impact, ensuring that institutions across Europe share and benefit from each other's experiences and practices.
Thank you for sticking together for the past 2 years, developing the network, which now yields many fruits: Anna Kapsalis, Dirk Kolar, Ann Katrine Stendahl Rannestad, Vibeke Vedsted Andersen.
Special thanks to all the coordinators who contributed to the programme with their presentations: Davor Černi, Carlos Alcobia, Kristina Fischer, Tim Van Aken, Anke Wekerle, Brigitte Visser MBA, @Isabel Serra, Elsa Freitas José Miguel Sousa, and @Stefan Schaaf.
Yes, and I have wind in my hair in the photo, as usual :)
