Social Media Manager || I'm On A Mission To Elevate The Social Media Presence Of Product Based Businesses Through Organic Social Media Marketing And Content Strategies || Content Marketing Strategist ||
What are the things you consider before choosing to volunteer? A few days ago, I was chatting with a friend who was bitterly complaining about how poorly she was being treated by the organization she volunteered for. Apparently, her efforts weren't valued or appreciated, which left her feeling disheartened. This conversation got me thinking - what should we consider before choosing to volunteer for an organization? 🤔 We all know that volunteering is an excellent way to gain hands-on experience, develop new skills, and make a positive impact. For me, volunteering has opened countless doors and provided invaluable opportunities. 🙌 However, If you find yourself in a situation where volunteering feels more like a burden than a fulfilling experience, it may be time to reassess. Consider the organization's mission, values, and culture, are they in line with yours? Evaluate the level of support and appreciation volunteers receive. Your time and efforts should be valued and respected. Here are a few key things I believe we should look out for before committing to a volunteer role: 👉 Alignment with personal values and goals 👉 Positive organizational culture and work environment 👉 Opportunities for skill development and growth 👉 Recognition and appreciation for volunteer efforts 👉 Flexibility and time commitment balance If you find yourself in a situation where your contributions are consistently undervalued or the experience isn't contributing to your long-term goals, it may be time to have an open conversation with the organization. If the issues persist, it's okay to explore other opportunities that better align with your goals and aspirations. At the end of the day, your time and effort are precious, and you deserve to be supported and appreciated in your volunteer role. P.S. I'd love to hear your thoughts! What factors do you consider before choosing to volunteer? Also, do you have positive volunteering experiences? Share them with us 😌. Your story might inspire others to explore similar opportunities. 💫 Keep being amazing. Till next time, Love, Dora ❤️. #volunteering #socialmediamanager #chroniclesofDora #winningonlinkedinwithtife #scaleonlinkedinwithtife

I share Business Tips from my experience as a Founder and Business Manager|I advocate for People-centred Business Strategies and Fair Workplace Policies|SDG 8 [email protected]
To volunteer is to give the same energy, skill, commitment to an endeavor that you are not being paid for, as though you are being paid for it. This attitude of: Volunteering.. Then, putting in half measures Then, wondering why they are not rewarding you Then, bearing a grudge Then, bad mouthing the organization or employers Is just wrong. I understand that in the workplace, you volunteer with the hope that your skills will be noticed and it gets frustrating when the organisation seems to be more interested in taking all you have to give, without giving anything- but hey! That is volunteering! And you signed up for this. So, here is what you can do: Don't volunteer indefinitely; Be very definite about the duration of time you want to volunteer E.g. Sir, I will like to volunteer for six months. In the course of that six months, put in your all; Passion, commitment, skill, knowledge, everything. There may be rewards in the course of this time, they may not. It doesn't matter. Give it your all. At the end of the period, walk up to your boss: "Sir, I want to thank you for taking this chance on me.. I have learnt a lot, and the time also gave me a chance to face and conquer challenges I would have never known existed in this field. My six month is over and I will be moving on now. I'm really grateful for this opportunity" After this speech, one of three things is likely to happen: 1. They will realize that they really need you and make you a job offer. 2. They may simply give you a parting package that may be helpful to you. 3. They may be sorry to see you go because of how committed you were but may not have the capacity at the time to make you an offer. In this case, you have gained a relationship, and a possible future opportunity. 4. In the worst case scenario, nothing comes out, but least, you have learnt, gotten experience, met people, and most importantly, you put a timeline to it, so you are not stuck. You can walk away without strife. I hope this helps.

Volunteering! ______________________________________________________________________________________ Volunteering to acquire job skills can seem daunting, but it often pays off for those who are patient and teachable. Here’s why this approach is valuable and how to make the most of it: The Challenge of Volunteering Initial Hesitation: Many hesitate to volunteer due to the lack of immediate financial compensation, especially when income is needed, or the time investment seems uncertain. Skill Gap: Starting with little experience can be intimidating, with a steep learning curve requiring significant time and effort to become proficient. Time Management: Balancing volunteering with other responsibilities like a job, family, or school requires excellent time management and prioritization skills. The Benefits of Volunteering Skill Development: Provides hands-on experience difficult to obtain through traditional education, including technical skills, communication, teamwork, and industry-specific knowledge. Networking: Allows you to meet professionals and mentors, leading to job recommendations, mentorship, and insider information about job openings. Resume Building: Adds valuable experience to your resume, showing potential employers that you are proactive and capable of applying skills in real-world settings. Confidence and Personal Growth: Overcoming volunteering challenges boosts confidence and personal growth, giving a sense of accomplishment and impact. Job Opportunities: Many find volunteer positions can lead to paid jobs within the same organization, as employers often hire those who have proven their skills and dedication. I testify to this! Making Volunteering Work for You Set Clear Goals: Identify the skills you want to develop and the experience you seek to choose the right opportunities and stay motivated. Be Patient and Teachable: Understand that skill development takes time. Be open to learning from others, accepting feedback, and continuously improving. Choose the Right Opportunities: Look for volunteer positions aligning with your career goals. For example, if you want to work in Monitoring & Evaluation, seek roles involving data management and analysis. Network Actively: Engage with other volunteers, staff, and professionals. Attend related events and maintain contact with your network. Document Your Experience: Track your volunteer activities, skills developed, and projects worked on for resume updates and job interviews. Volunteering to acquire job skills may seem daunting, but it's a worthwhile investment. By being patient and teachable, you can gain valuable experience, build a strong network, and open doors to job opportunities. Approach volunteering with a clear purpose, an open mind, and a willingness to learn and grow.
