A very famous LinkedIn creator recently gave some advice I don't agree with. He said your engagement strategy should include commenting on influencer posts. Here's why I don't agree with this strategy: → It's like spraying and praying for leads since influencer posts get 500 comments from people vying for attention → Time requirement is high as you're spending min 5 mins to craft a standing-out comment. → You can't just jump every time the moment they post when you're occupied with work. If anyone ever proposes this as a one-size-fits-all engagement strategy, I'm just out. I'd rather support fellow growing creators and beginner creators who need it. All you have to do is this: → Find and engage with TG who are actually active [they are active, don't give excuses] → Spend time in DMs than influencers' comments and nurture them to get referrals → Find more TG and grow the relationship. Here's how I do it: I tailor my strategy to get a minimum of 3 clients if I do daily engagement with 30 people. If they are not interested, I will remove them from my connection and repeat the cycle. It's more focused and scalable and predictable. And the best? You can still build your iconic brand, just like Rose did. What's your opinion on this engagement strategy? But when it comes to engagement strategies, I disagree that commenting on influencer posts is the best use of time. There is a common misconception that the number of followers you have directly contributes to your social worth; this is, in fact, a fallacy. In a world where you can now pay to have your follower count raised for pennies on the dollar, this is no longer how the social stratosphere gauges the success of an account. However, it would be remiss to say that follower count doesn't matter at all. It can still be an indicator of your reach and potential influence. The key is not to let it be the sole measure of your social media success. So, with the number of followers going out the window, what shows your account's impact? Your engagement. Genuine engagement, not just numbers. This authenticity of engagement is not impossible to fake, though it is much more difficult. Every like, share, and comment shows how engaged your community is on social media, providing a reassuring and confident measure of your account's impact. From my experience working in the beauty industry, where brands send me products to review and create content, I can confirm this shift in focus. While you need a minimum of 1,000 followers to utilize such programs, companies heavily scrutinize your engagement before offering a partnership deal. Whether you have 1,000 or 10,000 followers, you will only be accepted if your content is being interacted with. This reiteration of the shift in focus from follower count to engagement enlightens and informs about the current social media landscape. This also brings the conversation of micro-influencers into play. Many companies mistakenly overlook influencers with 10,000 followers, choosing instead to work with those who have 100,000 followers. This is a huge oversight. Not only is the influencer with the higher follower count not the more cost-effective option, but often, we see that the micro-influencer has much higher engagement and a far more loyal and communicative follower base. This underscores the empowerment and significance of micro-influencers in the industry. Your influence, no matter the size, is valuable and impactful. Let's redefine success in the social media landscape.
