I fumbled during an interview🥺 No, I'm not joking! Last year, my 90-day consistency challenge got me an internship offer, I accepted this offer and the founder sent the company's document to me and the interview date, I was so busy with SIWES stuff that I only glanced through the company's document while noting just a few points. The D-day came for the interview and it got to the part where I was told to talk about what I read, But, I could only say the few things I read😔. He was slightly disappointed, but I replaced the disappointment with a surprise! I went ahead to share tips we could use to boost the company's growth. I didn't allow my low preparation get the best of me. I didn't allow it hinder me from being myself. Lesson to Derive: When you make mistakes, don't be too hard on yourself. Instead, look for how to make amends. Every day, in every role, we issue briefs. Whether you are a CEO or an intern, the need to communicate effectively cuts across all levels of an organization. From the briefs of big projects to the little things. Good briefs get the work done, poor briefs spread the virus of confusion and frustration. This simple 5 Cs checklist can make you create better briefs easily. And if you think this issue will solve once you finally have the dream Director title, you’re wrong. It will actually get worse. Check my new blog post linked in comments to see why. #BeatAmbiguity #Briefs

Experienced Digital Strategist | Passionate About Setting Goals Before Choosing Tools, Creating Engaging & Informative Content, Providing a Quality User Experience, Measuring Success
In today's chapter of lessons with the interns, I was reminded of a few things: * Always have a supply of snacks: it helps the creative juices flow (plus keeps everyone from getting hangry!) * Give a prompt and let them brainstorm: all their ideas won't work or even come to pass, but let them talk it through and decide what's next. Just be there to shepherd the conversation. * Let them connect: they have such unique backgrounds, experiences, and interests. It's a beautiful thing to see them connect, understand and share. * Show you are human: today, we got talking about the fact I write about cooking and have an Instagram account related to it. They were so excited to see me beyond the role of "boss" and in the role of "person that cares enough to share their interests with me" * Be flexible: I've tried the "you need to provide x pieces of content this week" It rarely works and is rarely the authentic voice you need to share.

Maybe it’s just another way to justify the time we like to spend snuggled up on the couch when we should be working, but movies can be THAT educational 😌 Beside some soul searching, maybe you can learn about building USP from these two movies! 😍 #1 Legally Blonde (Embrace your uniqueness) Elle's quirky USP that secured her an internship is her pink-scented resume. 3 simple ways to find yours: - What do you believe and stand for? - Why do you care? Imagine this: Create to document your life- the ups, downs, milestones achieved, rejections, first salary, cold mail that landed you at your dream internship! An intern made a comment, and I was fired… It’s been almost 5 months since I was fired from a job that I thought I was doing really well in. With the help of my colleague, now friend, I was able to create a lineup of media production of 10 different guests. (Influencers and business leaders) Had a few promising leads with businesses who were keen and interested in working with us and our services. 👀 I was given a few exciting projects to lead and had started planning discussions on the vision and goal for each project. 🧑🏻💻 🤝🏼I had built a rather trusting relationship with my colleagues and had collaborated and worked together with them on projects. But all that came to a screeching halt when, I was asked to attend an impromptu meeting with the bosses only to be let known that I was to be fired over a complain about being rude, mean and a bully…… 🙃 I’ve always thought that there was never a need to belittle anyone in the workplace, neither do I think it’s ever necessary to make yourself seem better at your job at the demise of another. I’ve always believed in having good relations with the people you’re working with even if you don’t necessarily get along with them. To me as a christian, I’ve always learnt to practice self denial and to love others for the way they are (still working on the latter) So it definitely came to my suprise when despite my efforts to work closely with the intern I was told that I had bullied them. Full disclosure, I was not told who made the comment that got me fired. But since I had a rather good relationship with some of my other colleagues, I was able to figure out where the comment came from. (Not shown here, couple of messages and screenshots 🫠) When working with the intern, I always ensured that they got the proper credit for whatever work they did, asking them if they’re coping well with the tasks and internship, having conversations with them outside of work, even “sticking up” for them whenever there’s banter thrown at them by others. So what did I learn? 🤷🏻♂️ • A small work team doesn’t necessarily mean lesser work drama • No “red tape” doesn’t always mean good vibes, it could also lead to the lack of protocols and unreliable information. (I was fired without any notice or prior warning) • Just because you’ve been complimented for your work doesn’t necessarily mean that you won’t be tossed with a curveball. (The week before I was fired, I was still being complimented for my work and was in discussion about a new project) • The working world can be brutal, it’s normal for setbacks and difficulties. But always find different pillars of support both within the work environment as well as outside. • Just because you’ve been fired, doesn’t mean you completely cut ties with people. Keep in contact with ex-colleagues you had good relationship with and had great work experience with. It’s been almost 5 months since I’ve been fired, I’m not bitter, but I’ve learned.

Building TextVooks - Simplify Learning Through Stories | Learning & Development Specialist | Instructional Designer | Educational Content Developer
⭐️ Received another awesome review of my book "One Thing Better". Alhumdulillah - Which means, it's #storytime. It's about the day I brutally learned the art of #communication.👉🏼 It was the fifteenth day of my internship 8 years ago. My task: Ask a senior to help me find files for a project. I knocked. There were two people in the room. I entered and felt a freezing breeze. My target: sitting on the left side. I approached them, put my laptop on the desk, and started with my question. "Aaaa, Sameera told me tooo, umm ask you about this project. Actually, you did a year ago. I, umm, I can't find it." - ( they weren't looking at me the entire time I was talking ) I continued, "Umm, this is the file name.." They faced me, and suddenly interrupted, "Aaa, umm, uhh, eeh. What? I'm not going to respond UNTIL you speak properly. Say that again. Then, I'll listen." ( with a serious tone and expression) Turned the chair back and started working again. Next 20 seconds, I stood there like a rock. I swear the room became 10X cold. I wanted to disappear because of the embarrassment of what I did! I had never learned a lesson in this way before. Soaking it all in, I took a deep breath, made bullet points in the next 10 seconds, and then I spoke. "We are working on creating a company profile and adding the projects that we did throughout the years. There was a project named XYZ you did in XYZ year and I need to find the files of this project from the cloud. But I'm having issues because the names are changed. Would you please help me locate these files? They instantly stopped working, looked at me, and said, "Of course, I'll help you. Have a seat." ( a welcoming expression this time ) Reflecting back, I learned 80% of my communication skills in those 20 secs. If nobody would have shown me the reality, I might not be where I am now! Today, I always take my time before I communicate. Before I speak. Before I write. Because it is a representation of who I am. And what I can and want to bring to the table. If you want people to take you seriously, listen to your ideas, stories, experiences, and what you can contribute, then state your message with clarity! 8 years late, 23 Sep 2022. Khaula Rizwan messaged me on LinkedIn. ( No introduction needed but QUEEN of writing. duh ) She asked, "Would you be interested in a book collaboration?" "Yes, but why did you choose me?", I asked drowning in excitement and confusion. She said, "Because you are my writing doppelganger!" 🤯 my exact reaction - OMG, When did I come so far? So, yes. You can improve and will improve. The book "One Thing Better- on writing strong Statements of Purpose" is not a template for SOPs. It's a combination of strategies, examples, and methods of how to think differently so you can write differently. P.S. Want to get the eBook? 𝗕𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗡𝗲𝘄𝗯𝗶𝗲 𝗦𝗨𝗖𝗞𝗦, 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁? Imagine being a new character in season 5 of a show. feels weird, right? We all have been there, new to something. Maybe it was a new basketball team you became a part of. Probably you were hired as a new member in your internship office. And what did it feel like? Felt t like everyone was doing best already, and you needed to do something way beyond yourself to just match the crew? To fit in, to feel accepted, to make a name of yourself... They told you they had gone through the same, all the seniors. But that didn't help you, because after everything, no one was taking you as someone important. And you thought... "𝘐𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺'𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘨𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴, 𝘸𝘩𝘺 𝘥𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱 𝘮𝘦 𝘢𝘭𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘺? 𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘭𝘦𝘵 𝘮𝘦 𝘨𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘢𝘮𝘦?" I'll tell you why. Because when you start a journey, you have to do things by your own. Others might be there to cheer you up, to guide you, to show you the way. But walking will be your own doing. So if you're a Copywriter, and you're not getting any clients, don't blame it on seniors and "others". Just practice daily and make things better for yourself. No one will come hire someone who isn't even sure of helping himself. And if you can't do that, what can you do for a business? So that was that, my fellow newbies. If you want to grow, you'll have to do it yourself. No one's going to do it for you. PS, I'm also new to this field, and I'm constantly learning by all the good people out there. PPS if you have read it this far, you know it already I'm worth your time. So shoot me a text and let's take your email marketing game to another level.

✍️ Intern Diaries #13: Working with famous people It’s easy to think that the famous people we see on TV/social media aren’t just people. I’m aware of how silly that sounds. Of course they’re people. They just work in a field that puts them in the center of attention! Still, subconsciously, I think I’ve been putting them on a high pedestal. I’ve been a tad awkward when working with these people – which is unsurprisingly common, given the nature of Bloomr.SG. I was a common intern. Unworthy of their time and attention. I would not speak unless spoken to. I shall stand in the corner, away from plain sight, and do my work. Silently. Like a shadow. Not creepy at all. I was unable to do that for my most recent celebrity encounter. I was going to be featured in a video WITH said celebrity. We talked quite a bit. We both studied business in university. He said I could act an awkward person well. It might’ve been just standard pleasantries, but it was pleasant nonetheless! He might not remember the encounter once I’ve finished my stint. To me though, it was firsthand experience on how we’re not so different – they're just often significantly more good-looking. Takeaway: The people behind the screen are people. Mind blowing. We should be a bit nicer to them in our thoughts. #intern #celebrity #fame
