As we know, nonprofits are an essential part of the social fabric of our nation. But it's not easy running one. And it's incredibly challenging to increase impact and engagement at a time of so much noise. One great way to cut through the noise is to build a solid organizational culture with your team. The fact is that nonprofits have a lot going on with their missions, programs and, of course, getting donors to give to their causes. But a vital ingredient for the secret sauce is teamwork, and you get the best of your squad by building a great organizational culture. While everyone has a job to do, making strides to foster a vibrant and impactful team culture can help get your organization on the map. https://lnkd.in/g2T9w6Ja

🌟 5 Places Where Your Strategy Belongs Strategies that end up sitting “on a shelf” are tragically common for nonprofits. They’re not doing any good hidden from view. So what’s the alternative? As a nonprofit leader, it’s almost always a good time to talk strategy. Why? Apart from learning about what’s most important to others, either your strategy is the most important thing to discuss, or your strategy is missing the most important things. Grounding stakeholder conversations in strategy: ✅ reinforces its importance, ✅ creates alignment across disparate efforts, and ✅ invites feedback to adapt your plans when necessary. Here are practical ways to communicate your strategy with five types of stakeholders: ⭐ The Board Since your board has ultimate responsibility for setting and overseeing strategic direction, strategy drives every meeting agenda. If something on the agenda doesn’t clearly tie to strategy, is it truly relevant? Or does it point to a need for your strategy to change? ⭐Funders Magic happens when funders’ aims and your strategic goals align. First seek to understand funders’ objectives, and then explore intersections with your strategic direction. Don’t abandon your vision to chase funding opportunities with poor alignment! ⭐Partners Look for partners with shared values and complementary visions and missions. Your goals and plans will point to opportunities, as well as practical limitations, to work together. ⭐Staff and volunteers Motivate staff and volunteers by demonstrating how their work supports a larger mission and strategy. For staff, go further: ensure performance goals align with strategic goals. Strategy is about doing things differently, not doing additional things on top of everyone’s “day job.” ⭐Community Build support and advocacy for your mission by showcasing the direction you’re going and pathways for community involvement. Publicly committing to your strategic aims also bolster accountability. More universally, create “mission moments” – opportunities to work directly in the mission or hear from those who benefit from it – to remind stakeholders of your shared “why.” 👉 Using your strategy as a communications tool in stakeholder conversations will foster greater alignment and lasting mission impact! ----- 📢 Come see my workshop, "3 Keys to Making Strategy Matter," at the NH Nonprofit Conference and Expo on May 16th! 👋 I facilitate strategic planning for nonprofits and coach leaders to put people first to make their strategies matter. Feedback can help your improve services, support organizational change initiatives, and grow your impact. An effective way to get useful data from your community is by using a feedback loop. Valerie Threlfall, founder and executive director of Listen4Good, and Megan Campbell, senior director of programs and strategy of Feedback Labs, share four tips to help you gather high-quality nonprofit client and community feedback for your nonprofit. 1. Collect data from as many clients as possible: administer surveys using multiple methods (like text, email, and mail), and make sure to explain why you’re gathering the information. 2. Compare your data and look for trends: use external benchmarks or your own organization’s results over time to figure out whether you’re making progress. 3. Bring others into your feedback process: before the survey, invite clients and staff to review questions and reach a larger audience. After the survey, ask staff and clients to help interpret and share the results. 4. Close the client feedback loop: send out a summary email, hold a town hall, or follow up 1-on-1. How do you collect feedback?
