Did you know it's best to avoid giving a 👍 when you're engaging with a #linkedin post? Using the other emojis (celebrate, support, love, insightful and funny) is far more effective, LinkedIn expert Lucy Bingle revealed at a recent Australian Industry Group (Ai Group) masterclass. “When you do this, it sends a message to the LinkedIn algorithm that you're an insightful, purposeful user of LinkedIn who thinks about how you engage on this platform. “As a ‘reward’, they will feed more of your content to other users. “Ultimately, the more active you are on LinkedIn, the more you are rewarded.” Discover more tips here: ⬇ #aigroup Shirley Ng

🔴 Generalist vs. Specialist: Who Wins on LinkedIn? In an age where information is just a click away and AI tailors everything to our preferences, the debate between being a generalist and a specialist has intensified. 🌐 Generalists are often appreciated for their broad knowledge and versatility, able to pivot and adapt across various fields. However, when it comes to money, specialists tend to have the upper hand. Why? Because expertise in a specific niche often commands a higher market value. People pay for depth and precision, especially in sectors where specialized knowledge can significantly impact outcomes. 🎯 On LinkedIn, this concept is mirrored in how content is distributed and engaged with. The algorithm favours profiles that consistently focus on one or maybe two areas of expertise. This consistency helps in building a stronger, more engaged network that sees you as the go-to expert in your field. 🤔 So, what should you focus on? If you're aiming to maximize your impact and value in the professional world, especially here on LinkedIn, honing in on your specialism might just be the key. Keep your content relevant and tightly focused around your area of expertise to attract the right audience – your ideal clients and collaborators. What's your take on this? Are you a proud generalist, or have you found your niche as a specialist? Drop your thoughts below! 👇

Most of us know the power of networking on LI but do y’all use other social media platforms to network? If not, here’s why you should. For the past two years I’ve been booking meetings using Instagram and TikTok along with LI. People know that LI is where we come to mostly professional expression (though not limited to this). Your followers on other social media platforms feel as if they get a less polished more realistic view of you as a person. This may or not be factual but perception is everything. If you haven’t tried connecting with prospects and folks in your business community on your other social media platforms you’re missing out. We are all aware of using multiple channels to prospect, so why not apply the same process to the other social media your already using where you have a following? By the way, while we are on the topic shoot me a follow on Instagram I’ll see ya over there 👉 @ TheJroShow

!! 3 ways to ⬆️ your LinkedIn engagement !! 1. Find your niche 💡 Double down on your area of expertise. If you are passionate about CRM, then post about CRM. If you are passionate about new sports technologies, then post about sports technologies. Build a community within the LinkedIn community and your new tailored audience will increase your engagement 2. Post regularly ⏱ If you are someone who wants to grow your LinkedIn network, then post regularly. This shouldn’t be new information to most people, however active accounts are rewarded via the platforms algorithm. Not every post will perform well, but it only takes one viral post to grow your network and potentially land you a new job opportunity 3. The tagline and picture matters 📸 Don’t start your post with: “In the last week me and my team launched..” Use engaging taglines like: “3 reasons you are XY” “Why XY made me fail” This makes your post more interesting and encourages viewers to engage. Also the photo one chooses is important. Personally I have found that AI generated images don’t perform as well as real photography. Videos outperform stills when speaking about new tech.

Head of Social @ a16z crypto | ex – LinkedIn & Snap 👻 | Follow to learn how to build your social presence. 🫡
Old way of networking on social media: "Hi, I just followed you. Love your content. Do you have 30 mins to chat?" This is fundamentally wrong on so many levels. Imagine how many inbound messages people receive on a daily basis (SMS, Email, Slack, DM, etc.) People have become desensitized to DMs (and most notifications for that matter) Better ways to build a network through social media: → Build a project or company in public → Learn in public (teach people what you're learning) → Curate great content for others to consume → Share your personal experiences and perspective Doing these above will make you more interesting and will bring people to you. Over time, I think this is really how you build a network through social media. Your content gets shared reaching 2nd and 3rd degree networks. And when you eventually do cold outreach to people, it's much more likely that they will actually respond (either because they recognize your name/face or because they quickly checked out your profile and liked your recent posts. Social networks have evolved over the last decade, I think it's time we evolve with them. #socialmedia
