When was the last time an innovative idea originated from spontaneous, cross-departmental collaboration within your organization without a pre-defined incentive or a structured initiative forcing them together? Simple? 🕯️Karl Duncker’s classic “Candle Problem” experiment revealed something revolutionary about motivation and problem-solving. Group A: Solve without incentive. Group B: Solve with a monetary incentive. The result ? Group A, with no reward, outperformed Group B. What’s the takeaway here? 👉🏽Meaning > Money: Your employees might produce higher-quality work when they find intrinsic meaning in it, beyond monetary rewards. 👉🏽Seeing is Believing: Teams who comprehend the overarching impact of their tasks often showcase enhanced creativity and efficiency. Here are some things I've learned about the art of ideation and how to turn amazing ideas into profitable products, given that I'm particularly intrigued with coming up with new product ideas. Though having amazing ideas is prized in today's corporate environment, true innovation comes from translating those ideas into marketable products. Ideation, which forms the basis for innovation, is the creative process of coming up with, developing, and sharing new ideas. Effective concept presentation, accepting risk, implementing ideas, and striking the correct balance between organizational rigidity and flexibility are all difficulties in the ideation process. To overcome these challenges, companies should focus on presenting ideas clearly, embracing calculated risks, and striking the right balance between flexibility and structure. Encouraging employees to take initiative and designating responsible individuals to handle idea implementation can drive innovation. Differentiate between creativity and innovation - creativity generates ideas, while innovation brings them to life. Overcoming resistance to change and fostering a culture of responsible ideation are essential. Organizational structure can support innovation by providing stability and risk distribution. Remember, creativity alone isn't enough for business growth. Emphasize practical implementation to turn brilliant ideas into successful products that drive business growth.

Creating IDEATION within your organization Imagine the opportunity for innovation if everyone felt "safe" to share ideas Here are some steps to make it happen ... 1. Cultivate a Safe Space: Create an atmosphere where team members feel comfortable sharing ideas without fear of judgment or ridicule. Encourage open discussions by valuing diverse perspectives and opinions. 2. Lead by Example: Demonstrate openness to new ideas by actively participating in brainstorming sessions and being receptive to suggestions. Build on the 10% of any idea that you can agree on! 3. Establish Dedicated Ideation Sessions: Schedule these sessions, specifically designed for generating ideas. Offer a structured yet flexible environment where team members can freely explore concepts. 4. Encourage Diversity: Embrace diversity within your team. Different backgrounds, experiences, and viewpoints often lead to more varied and innovative ideas. 5. Reward and Recognize Innovation: Acknowledge and reward innovative ideas and contributions. This could be through public recognition, incentives, or opportunities for those who propose valuable ideas. 6. Walk the Walk: Offer resources, tools, and training that support the ideation process. This could include access to relevant technologies, workshops, additional budget, etc. 7. Encourage Constructive Feedback: Encourage team members to provide feedback on each other's ideas, helping to refine and develop them further. Allowing only constructive feedback on improvement rather than criticism. 8. Set Clear Objectives: Provide clear goals or challenges to focus the creative thinking. Be specific in the objectives to guide the brainstorming process and ensure the ideas generated stay aligned with organizational goals. 9. Create Platforms for Idea Sharing: Implement platforms or channels where team members can freely share ideas at any time, fostering continuous innovation 10. Follow Through on Promising Ideas: Act on promising ideas generated through ideation sessions. Show that you're committed to implementing and testing viable concepts. This is what demonstrates that ideas are valued and can lead to tangible outcomes 11. Celebrate Failures as Learning Opportunities: Encourage a culture that sees failures as stepping stones to success. Highlight the valuable learnings from the unsuccessful ideas and use them to refine future ideation processes. Last but not least ... Lead by example! Allow yourself the opportunity to fail forward in front of your team as you begin to institute these new ideas. Your team will certainly appreciate your authenticity! #navigatingchange #authenticleadership #authenticcommunication #innovation #AIMGroupCoaching #employeedevelopment Cindy Lima, MA, ACC #employeesatisfaction

Committed to Making Strategy Execution a Competency in Every Organization | Teaching Leaders How to Execute
Are you allowed to be creative at work? Does your employer empower you to get creative in how you accomplish difficult challenges and do your daily job? Is finding new solutions to old problems and building future innovation encouraged in your workplace? If not, then it’s likely that you only focus on the day-to-day and do not work at improving the organization or taking your products and services to the next level. What is creativity anyway? Here's a lengthy but accurate description: By definition, creativity is the ability to produce original, unique, and meaningful ideas, concepts, or solutions that have value or relevance. It encompasses generating new insights, perspectives, or interpretations and the capacity to combine or transform existing elements in innovative ways. Creativity may manifest in various forms, including artistic expression, problem-solving, scientific discovery, entrepreneurial innovation, and more. It often involves a combination of imagination, knowledge, and cognitive processes, such as divergent thinking, lateral thinking, and associative thinking, to produce outcomes that stand out for their novelty, utility, or significance. Creativity is a fundamental human trait contributing to progress, innovation, and enriching culture and society. It can be developed and applied across many domains and disciplines. Unless, of course, there’s no time for it. Creativity is the foundation of innovation; it allows a business to develop new products, services, processes, and ideas to give it a competitive edge. Creative thinking can lead to breakthroughs and unique solutions that disrupt an industry or solve long-standing problems. When creative individuals work on challenges, they do it with a fresh perspective and non-linear thinking. When done consistently, this can lead to more effective and efficient problem-solving, which is essential for overcoming obstacles and adapting to changing market and economic conditions. Creative thinking enables your business to better adapt to changing circumstances, especially today, where businesses continue to evolve and can become something entirely new and different. If you’re not taking the time to focus on new and more creative solutions for your business, you’re potentially missing the opportunity to grow, learn, and improve your people and your business. If you want to leverage creativity long-term, consider building a culture that values and encourages creative thinking. To accomplish this, invest in training and development for your people and remain open to new ideas and approaches. Creativity should never be limited to a few individuals or a specific department; it should be a commonly held belief that permeates your entire organization. What causes creativity to happen? Leadership does. #ceos #leadership #creativity #execution Looking to be more creative? Start by subscribing to my weekly leadership brief at https://lnkd.in/gXpc_pyu

Team Creativity Drain Group work is a ubiquitous concept that drives many businesses' success. However, there is a growing concern about the emotional reactions of individuals working in groups, and how it impacts their performance and decision-making. Individuals in groups tend to prioritize their status over creative ideas, leading to a handicapping of teams. Studies reveal that group brainstorming inhibits creative thinking, and individuals produce more and higher quality ideas than groups. Moreover, the fear of negative repercussions often leads team members to hold back edgy thoughts that could be game-changers. To overcome the challenges of group work, organizations must focus on setting the right conditions for teams to be successful. One way to do this is to create an environment that encourages bold ideas and creative thinking while minimizing the fear of negative repercussions. It's essential to have a process that evaluates ideas without inducing apprehension in team members. As a business leader, take a step back and evaluate how your organization approaches group work. Consider implementing strategies that will create an environment where individuals feel safe and encouraged to express their ideas, even if they are unconventional. Remember, the goal of group work is to produce the best possible outcomes, and that can only happen when individuals feel free to be creative and think outside the box.
