Beyond Business Cards: Building meaningful relationships at networking events. Sharing my learnings today from my mistakes on simply exchanging business cards at many networking events . Till the time I realised building a strong network isn't just about business propositions. It's about fostering genuine connections that can be mutually beneficial in a variety of ways. Here are some ways how we can approach building authentic relationships at networking events. 👉🏻So instead of seeing every interaction as a potential business deal, the focus should be on getting to know people and what they're passionate about by asking thoughtful questions, listening actively, and finding common ground. 👉🏻 Provide more value and think about how you can be helpful to others in your network by offering your expertise, connect them with relevant people, or simply be a sounding board for their ideas. 👉🏻Be genuine, reliable, and someone people can count on. This will help build strong, long-lasting relationships. These connections may not lead to immediate business deals, but they can still be incredibly valuable. The people you connect with might introduce you to someone who can offer a great opportunity down the line. 👉🏻Your network can be a great source of information and support. You can learn from each other's experiences and expertise. 👉🏻 Strong relationships can lead to powerful endorsements. People in your network may recommend you for jobs or projects. Networking tips (not for dummies) 🤟 Are you an introvert who finds meeting new people challenging? I feel you. I’ve been there, trust me. Simple tricks (all tested by me): ↘ Good Energy Attracts Good Energy - If you’re relaxed, smiling, and open to people, you’ll attract similar individuals. ↘ Ask, Listen, Then Speak - There’s nothing worse than starting a conversation with a monologue about yourself. Being curious about others pays off; you never know what story the person you’re talking to has to share. ↘ Don’t Sell Right Away to Everyone - We all know the purpose of business networking events, but for heaven’s sake, let’s at least keep up appearances sometimes ;) It might seem obvious, but in practice, it often isn’t. ↘ Maximize Time with Interesting People - If you’ve genuinely connected with someone and see potential for a business relationship, spend as much time with them as possible during the event and try to build a relationship. One such contact is worth more than many fleeting conversations. ↘ Follow Up After the Event - If you had a good conversation with someone during the event, write to them in a DM the next day. Maybe you can meet for coffee to continue the discussion? Don’t let them forget about you. In conclusion - people like doing business with people they like. Therefore, make yourself likable.
