Flight turbulence, causing sudden jolting or altitude changes, occurs due to up- and downdrafts of wind, often within clouds or around jet streams. Clear air turbulence is harder to detect and can be more problematic. Though aircraft are designed to withstand severe turbulence, it can still pose risks to passengers, emphasizing the importance of wearing seatbelts. Pilots use meteorological data and reports from other aircraft to navigate and minimize turbulence impact. Climate change and increased air traffic may be making turbulence more frequent. Despite the dangers, injuries from turbulence remain rare, with proper precautions ensuring passenger safety. #FlightTurbulence #AviationSafety #AirTravel #TheSocialTalks #talksocialtous

A really successful day at DAY 1 of the Flight Safety Foundation Forum, hosted by Eurocontrol. The theme this year is weather challenges and resilience. This is particularly topical given the recent series of weather events facing our aviation network globally and there are several excellent collaborative activities underway to reduce the negative effects. One of these was recently demonstrated by NATS in mitigating the effects of storm Isha on our major London airports operations, predicting bad weather and proactively reducing capacity effectively to keep air traffic moving where safely possible.
