A a really great and honest perspective from Melanie Neumeier about working with working parents. "As humans do, we tend to find and build relationships with people who are similar to us. Understandably so, we are most comfortable with people who can understand and relate to our experiences. I see no greater dividing line for this than between adults with and without kids. According to the Pew Research Center, about 3 in 10 adults (29%) in the U.S. have a child younger than 18 years old at home."

𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐄𝐥𝐥𝐚! Embracing Digital Parenthood: Nurturing Virtual Safety For Parents, navigating the digital landscape can be a daunting yet thrilling experience. Just like guiding your children through the complexities of the real world, #safeguarding their #virtual privacy has become an essential aspect of modern parenting. Reflecting on recent technological developments, the creation of digital personas from a handful of photos has opened our eyes to the potential vulnerabilities in the digital realm. It's a poignant reminder that our digital footprint holds significance beyond just cherished memories 𝐢𝐭'𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. The risks of identity #theft and #false imprisonment derived from such data misuse shed light on the stark reality of the digital age. As a parent, I've come to appreciate the need for a delicate balance between nurturing exploration and ensuring proactive vigilance in the virtual world. Ella's recent predicament has brought this into sharp focus. Her urgent need for 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 to avoid 𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 digital humiliation has underscored the very real and stark risks our children face in the digital domain. 𝐈𝐭'𝐬 𝐚 𝐰𝐚𝐤𝐞-𝐮𝐩 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐮𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬. In this context, we're reminded of the importance of s𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞, just as we would in the physical world. It's an opportunity for us to teach, not only our children but also ourselves, the significance of consent and respecting digital boundaries. As we explore the delicate dance of digital parenthood, it's imperative to share our experiences and learn from each other. Let's foster open dialogues within our communities, demystifying the complexities of safeguarding virtual privacy and embracing the nuances of digital parenting. Together, let's embark on this journey of nurturing virtual safety, weaving the threads of our personality into the fabric of artificial intelligence, and humanizing our digital experiences. #DigitalParenthood #VirtualSafety #HumanizingAI #ParentingJourney #ArtificialIntelligenceDialogue

Interesting Article
I finally found the time to write this piece, published in The Straits Times, in the midst of conference deadlines, data collection issues, and what not. After speaking with and visiting over 90 families and 30 preschool teachers, the academic papers we are currently working on are targeted at understanding what screen time means. One thing that weighed heavily on me was that many parents talked about device use like they were doing something morally wrong. I think the stigma and parental guilt associated with screen device use can often do more harm than good, and places the responsibility for child digital wellness solely on parents (rather than also focusing on what big tech companies should do). In this piece, we argue that, as a society, we need to rethink screen time as screen experience, so as to empower parents, be kinder to ourselves and one another, hold companies accountable for their decisions, and to acknowledge children's voice in their experiences. Thank you Suling Lin for the opportunity to share our thoughts with ST readers. Full article can be found here: https://lnkd.in/gVZvM5pm #screentime #children

Families struggled to disconnect from tech Why it matters: Speaking of habits that are hard to break ... It's safe to say that individual screen time has cut into quality family time in millions of households. To reconnect, families need to take deliberate steps to limit everyone's screen time. Those steps can include overall screen time limits or technology blackouts during meals or other parts of the day.
Our family is always glued to separate devices. How can we connect again?
