Are electric fleets on the horizon? ⚡️ There's a roadblock: Charging infrastructure. While some fleet owners may think purchasing electric trucks should be the first step in the electrical vehicle (#EV) process, this article from Transport Topics recommends starting with infrastructure planning first. The cost and timeline to build EV fleet infrastructure can be significant, but planning saves money in the long run. And we can help. At SitelogIQ, we eliminate our customers’ headaches by providing portfolio-wide, fully turnkey EV charging and infrastructure solutions. The biggest barrier to transitioning to EV trucking is cost and infrstructure. Industry leaders stress that fleets adding electric trucks should focus on charging infrastructure first. Electric trucks are expensive, with Class 8 trucks costing $400,000. Substantial investments in charging infrastructure are also required. The Clean Freight Coalition estimates $620 billion for infrastructure and $370 billion for utilities to fully electrify the U.S. commercial truck fleet. With increasing distributed generation and deferred grid maintenance, the grid must expand to meet new demands. Companies like Cyclum and Voltera are developing networks of charging stations with amenities to support electric fleets, making the transition more manageable and cost-effective. It will be interesting to see how far this goes. Is EV really the technology we wan to be investing in for the long term given the significant capital investment required? https://lnkd.in/gmSAcTNQ
