At this month’s CIWEM SuDS&Water Reuse (steering group) we noted: 1) There will be a great Innovation in Integrated Water Management Tuesday at 3.45pm at Flood and Coast (4-6 June) 2) Enabling Water Smart Communities project will be releasing some “blackwater recycling” footage soon – watch this space. 3) We discussed plans to help DEFRA access 'wider feedback' related to the future definition of “Wholesome Water”. More on this in the months ahead I suspect. 4) The Flood Resilient Garden is on show at Chelsea, and a few of us will be there this Thursday to see this “1-in-1000-year-flood retrofit” rain garden features.

Absolute 100% FACT. Wednesday 8 May, 3 Greens and 2 Socialist Councillors Vote to remove 2 constructed grass Spectator Mounds adjacent to the North Pitch at Hosken Reserve. The mounds are approx 100m long which would have provided a sloped viewing area of approx 1,160 sqm. Our own Council Officers noticed the Clean fill/Top soil and rather than send it to the TIP they rightfully thought, how about creating 2 mounds that will enhance spectator viewing??? Great idea but not according to the 5 experts. Was the most important stakeholder - (Pascoe Vale FC) consulted about the removal of the mounds? Nope! How much would it cost to create these mounds including the soil (what’s there now)? Between $160,000 - $220,000 So according to our “experts” they voted to spend an extra $90,000 of ratepayer money to remove both mounds and send this top soil/clean fill to the TIP!!! But aren’t the Greens about protecting the environment and recycling??? I’m gobsmacked, as this yet again demonstrates how out of touch some of your elected local representatives are. (Mounds are a heaped pile of earth and soil commonly used to improve spectator experience).
