Tick & Turf offers professional tick control, extermination services for properties throughout Litchfield County, CT. The cost of tick control and extermination services can vary depending on several factors, including the size of the property, the severity of the tick infestation, the methods used for control, and the geographical location. Additionally, whether the treatment is a one-time service or part of a recurring program can also affect the overall cost. https://lnkd.in/euzUFyXG

How can we manage feathertop Rhodes grass? 🤔🌾 Frequent and timely slashing could be an option. Options to control feathertop Rhodes grass on roadside verges have been tested as part of the Area Wide Management project. Working with the Millmerran Landcare group for the past two years, CSIRO researcher Brett Cocks has been assessing the impact of slashing. Areas are slashed 5 times a year, just prior to seed-set and at the end of the growing season. Mr Cocks says that one roadside site has been monitored for 14 months and preliminary results suggest frequent timely slashing is working. To reduce the spread of weeds at paddock boundaries, the trial is also investigating how feathertop Rhodes grass competes with sorghum sown at different row spacings. This is Richmond Park via Google Earth - poker dotted with these strange lumps. These are the nests of Lavius flavus, Yellow Meadow Ant. Their nests can reach up to 6m wide, act as propagators for Wild Thyme and other wildflowers, haul 7 tonnes of soil up every year, counteracting leaching of chemicals, and Winter Woodpecker distribution is partially based on their distribution. There's a localised abundance of mites and aphids in their nest's vicinity, and grasshoppers, butterflies and hoverflies are up to x5 times more likely to oviposit on a nest. Downland Hoverfly are adapted to this. We focus on the Beavers, Boars and Bison in Rewilding. But this 3mm ant seems to rival any Coral or Beaver. #rewilding #ecosystemengineer

DYK? Large numbers of honey bees within a colony can cause structural damage and become more problematic once a honeycomb structure has been created. When honey bees swarm, it's common for them to swarm onto bushes and trees. If a honeybee swarm is left and not collected quickly it could colonise chimneys, roofs or walls. If honey bee swarms move into structures such as walls or chimneys, they will need to be removed for health and safety reasons. Residents of South Florida are familiar with the Plecostomus. They also called suckermouth catfish or armored catfish. They have become very invasive in the canals and stream banks in Florida. I found it hard to believe that these fish were so abundant 30 miles inland from Tampa along a roadside ditch that was 3’wide. These catfish burrow under outlet pipes, and any structure with their strong barbed pectoral fins accelerating erosion below the waterline. Flexamat has been a good solution preventing their scour. The blocks are 6.5” x 6.5”. Some of these fish are approaching 18” in length. How many do you see?

Know your trees! Some, like pines, are more flammable and shouldn’t be planted close to your home. If you do plant pines on your property, consider interspersing them with deciduous trees, such as birch and aspen which are less flammable.
