To me, it means a couple of things. ⭐ There is always an answer to a question you may have about your staging or treatment plan. You just keep asking until you get your answer. ⭐ You can find ways to take care of yourself even though you don't feel like your "normal" self. Exercise, eat, and rest as you need to keep up your strength. ⭐ You can find different ways spiritually to tap into your inner strength. Pray, meditate, or breath to center yourself. ⭐ You can ask a friend or family member to take you to an appointment or run an errand for you. They are there to help you handle things. ⭐ Whatever hurdle is in front of you, there is always a way over it. Life is not easy, especially when dealing with cancer. Are we our choices? My mother chose quality. When presented with either getting a bone marrow transplant or chemo, she chose the latter. She understood that with an invasive procedure, she would be in a bubble because her immune system would be the equivalent of an infant. She lived out the rest of her days happy with her decision. My sister chose quantity. She was first diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer and had a double mastectomy/chemo. She was in remission for months before cancer metastasized to her lungs. The love of her children fueled her to do anything she could to remain a physical presence on this earth for as long as possible. She made the best decision for her family. My dad didn't have a choice. That’s partly true. Could he have taken better care of himself? Yes. It was still unexpected when he died of a heart attack at 62. My niece, who was three, said he ate too many sweets. He had a big heart, so the ripple effects were too much for his body to take when stressed. Being one degree away from illness and death started to inform my choices. I dance between carpe diem-ing to being incredibly thoughtful about my future. And I’m getting into the rhythm of my life. And seeing that there is time to honor who I am as I evolve into the woman I am meant to be. This is available for you as well.
