How DQLabs’ semantic layer unlocks the full power of enterprise data. 📶
From small businesses focused on DataOps to large enterprises needing robust data monitoring, a semantic layer seeks better insights amidst vast data volumes. Join #theCUBE’s #CDOIQ2024 on-site coverage for more on DQLabs’ advanced approach to data management tools, from ingestion to #observability and beyond.
“I think because the amount of data that we are producing is enormous, without a semantics layer, there is nothing that we can do meaningfully,” said DQLabs’ Raj J. “That’s why we build the semantic layers. The platform has modules on observability, as well as in quality.”
Using the platform, organizations can also access the simplified “observe, measure, discover and remediate” framework to harness generative AI at scale, he furthers.

Discussing the relationship between CDOs and CAIOs 🔁
In this #CDOIQ2024 special #AnalystANGLE, #theCUBE’s David Vellante sat with Sanjeev Mohan from SanjMo and Dr. Richard Wang, the founder of the #CDOIQSymposium, to discuss the relationship between the CDO and CAIO.
“In some companies, CDOs are completely focused on risk and governance instead of AI. They're more into security, governance, and data access. But some CDOs are more focused on analytics, so they can move to the AI role. There's no clear definition of the CDO role,” shares Mohan.
Dr. Wang joins the conversation, saying “that's why I started a CDO certification program with a very rigorous program for 15 months. It's like a labor camp with all the subject matter experts. They come to the common understanding that whether it's called CDO or CAO or CDAO or CDTO or CDTAIO, we broadly define all of them to be chief data officer in one sense.”
“The other sense that people now understand is there are actually two sides of CDO function. One is called the defensive side, producing high-quality data, and another is the offensive side that generates revenues. The moment you start to create some good data, the CEO would ask you to generate revenue. Thirty percent of company revenue could be on the shoulder of a CDO. So, it requires different kinds of CDOs with different kinds of skill sets,” he adds.

The importance of training models in the cloud ☁️
Join #theCUBE with Matt Wood, the VP of AI products of Amazon Web Services (AWS), in this #AWSSummit highlight, where he advises organizations to train their models in the cloud for cost, speed, and security benefits.
“If you want to have your own models, you also need an environment to train those models. Doing that on premises is expensive and slow with constrained capacity and terrible sustainability footprint. So, if you believe that you'll need capacity, low cost, and sustainability, you’ve got to do it in the cloud,” shares Wood.
“Over time, you're going to want more of your sensitive data to flow into that model to improve it. Our approach is the only place that you can do this is on AWS because we don't have visibility into any of the compute environments that are the models or the data. We prevent technical limitations on visibility with the Nitro system,” he continues.
“Using Nitro, we can't access any of that data. You're going to want a really strict enclave, a strict perimeter around the weights and around that data, which could be health, privacy, or confidential data. AWS is the only place that you can bring all of that together and run it in a secure enclave so that even inside your organization, you can't have access to it,” Wood concludes.

Achieving the “true hybrid harmony” of multiplicative environments 🤝
At this week’s #CDOIQSymposium, David Vellante, #theCUBE’s chief analyst, sat with Shayde Christian, the chief data & analytics officer at Cloudera, to learn about their approach to achieving true hybrid harmony.
“True hybrid is somewhere where you have a harmony in your multiplicity of environments where the environments are working cohesively together to allow you to democratize data effectively and to generate insights. We're the only true hybrid company in my opinion. The tenets of true hybrid really are about interoperable and portable data services. Open data lake houses are a big tenet of true hybrid,” shares Christian.
“Having a central command and control for security and governance is very important. To me, a practitioner having the full data lifecycle of tools available to you in integrated fashion is another tenet of true hybrid. At Cloudera, we're bringing the models to the data, but you've got to take the data to the models as well. We're looking at that true hybrid harmony of multiplicative environments working together as a way to accomplish it,” he adds.

Explore how Microsoft Purview ensures governance of the company’s structured and unstructured data from Karthik Ravindran, the GM of Enterprise Data at Microsoft, as he joins #theCUBE at this week’s #CDOIQSymposium.
“We've taken what used to be two orthogonal sets of investments inside the company. You're probably familiar with products like Microsoft information protection, data loss prevention, and data lifecycle management. Those were very anchored on the unstructured estate. Then, you've likely heard of Azure Purview, which was more the data governance platform for the structured data,” shares Ravindran.
“We focused on capital G governance and information estate, which encompasses security, compliance, risk management, and data management,” he furthers. “We have got CISOs, compliance officers, and data officers, who are operating in silos and investing in their own infrastructures, but not coming together because of the systemic constraints.”
“If we could bring together all of these investments into a single solution offering that spans these structured and the unstructured information estate, takes the innovation on the unstructured estate and brings it to the structured data, and vice versa, and combine it together into one whole solution. That’s Microsoft Purview,” Ravindran concludes.
