Fact or fiction: family businesses aren’t as successful as nonfamily businesses. I’m happy to say that this is a big fat MYTH! Family businesses often outperform their non-family-run counterparts. The Credit Suisse Family Governance White Paper even reports that US family businesses have 6.65% higher returns on assets than other businesses. If I had to guess why, I’d say it’s because family businesses have more genuine passion for what they do. With a deeper connection to our past and a greater commitment to our legacy, it’s no wonder why family businesses dominate the business world! #FamilyBusiness #business #leadership #commitment #success

Boards, possibly even more than management, need to have their interests aligned with the shareholders. Owning equity, including options, is key to aligning their interests. It has been evident since the financial crisis that when directors own shares there is a direct correlation in how the company performs which leads to greater shareholder value.
