Warm Roof - Library & Cultural Centre - Virginia, Co.Cavan As part of the renovation and energy upgrade of the existing traditional building, a warm roof was installed using a rigid wood fibre insulation board over the rafters and sheepswool between the rafters below. A vertical counter batten is fitted over the breathable membrane, and fixed through into the rafters below. By doing this, you move the required ventilation area to the outside, thus allowing you to fully fill the rafters below. This both eliminates thermal bridging through the rafters and optimises the u value of the roof. A tile batten and tiles are then installed. StoVentec Rainscreen Systems have been fire tested with fire breaks included in both CAN/ULC S134 and NFPA 285 tests. What savvy architects, designers, #cladding installers, and developers all appreciate is how StoVentec works out all of the details, rather than leaving them to sort through a hodgepodge of wall components like cladding, sub-framing, insulation, air and water barrier, etc. Instead, architects, owners, and #contractors get an entire, fully-tested, and code-approved high-performance ventilated #Rainscreen system. This includes a best-in-class air and water barrier, robust mineral wool continuous insulation, the most installer-friendly, adjustable sub-framing system available, and – of course – amazing StoVentec Rainscreen cladding. What is a building envelope, and why does it matter? We’re glad you asked. The term ‘building envelope’ refers to all components that are found on the outside of a building. It’s what physically separates the conditioned inside of a structure from the outside elements. Thanks to the building boom of the mid-2000s, a combination of newer materials and design methods plus contractor inexperience resulted in a huge wave of newer buildings needing major restoration on virtually every element of the building exterior: roofs, facades, windows, appurtenances, and beyond. Today, Rimkus assists building owners by providing a clear path to restoring their buildings. PROJECT UPDATE! Working with Collins Construction Ltd, TTSP have been developing the design on this imposing building in the heart of the theatre district. The intent by the client has been to undertake a sympathetic and careful refurbishment, making energy improvements wherever possible. The fabric of the building needed upgrading to achieve EPC improvements. Works have included stripping back the slate roof and fully insulating (including flat roofs). On the main façade, with each large window flanked by 2 smaller windows that are separated by concrete columns, that presented a challenge. Weighing up the extensive works required to remove the existing cavity insulation and reinstate new insulation it was agreed to line/insulate the internal façade and keep the existing insulation in-situ whilst applying the appropriate level of firestopping between window openings and party walls. Windows were replaced all around greatly improving both the appearance and thermal performance of the building. The project is expected to achieve an EPC rating increase from D to A and BREEAM Refurbishment Fit Out Pre-assessment Excellent. With the hoarding now down, the new front entrance can be seen for the first time and with light flooding the space, you can really see it beginning to take shape. Watch this space for more updates. #architectureanddesign #interiordesign #architecture #construction #propertyandconstruction #collaboration #teamwork #learning #refurbishment #sustainability #fabricupgrade #breeam #epc
