We would like to highlight SWS Employee Kyle Barkett, CPA, Vice President, on our Mid-Atlantic Team, for his continued dedication to impacting his community. Kyle has served on the Associate Board of The Bowery Mission for over 3 years after being inspired to serve the city's most vulnerable demographic during the height of the pandemic. The Board is a group of emerging leaders who dedicate their time, talents, networks, and resources to raise awareness and support for The Bowery Mission as it seeks to be the best provider of compassionate care and life transformation in New York City. Members have the unique opportunity to serve as advocates for The Bowery Mission's important work, while advancing personal, professional, and leadership goals. Kyle organizes a group from SWS to serve at The Bowery Mission once per quarter. Thank you Kyle for not only your dedication to giving back, but also leading by example of embodying our firm's mission of positively impacting the communities in which we live and serve. We are honored to have you as a part of our team! #swsimpact #employeespotlight #siebertwilliamsshank #communityimpact #thebowerymission

"When you work in manufacturing, you quickly realize that all business is people-focused...None of it happens without people. Creating great teams from every part of an organization can change the trajectory of a project, company, and at times even a marketplace." Check out this great interview with our President Joe Dyer as he shares about company culture, making a positive difference, his career path, and what it's like doing business in West Michigan.
"West Michigan is known for being a generous and collaborative culture, whether personally or in the business community. The gift of that culture is something that we all have received from those who have led before us. It is our responsibility as today’s organizational leaders and contributors to steward what we have been given. Economic development is a key part of that. We are grateful for organizations like Lakeshore Advantage who are devoted to investing in making our community stronger. We live in a time and a region of amazing blessing and abundance. Taking our stewardship responsibility seriously will ensure an even better future for those who follow behind us." Read More: https://zurl.co/dFTp

Are you a servant leader? The servant leader is someone who prioritizes the needs of others before their own and focuses on the growth and well-being of their team and their community. The concept of servant leadership turns the traditional leadership model upside down; instead of the people working to serve the leader, the leader exist to serve the people on their team, in their organization or in their community. #NonprofitLeadership #CommunityService #ServantLeadership
Board-Certified Pediatrician | Healthcare Executive | Visionary Leader | Healthcare and NonProfit Transformation | Community Champion
Last week, Elona Deprez and I had the distinct pleasure of lunching with the remarkable Marygrace Billek, the recently retired Director of Human Services for Mercer County Administration. MaryGrace continues her journey of service as a board member of the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen and the Princeton Area Community Foundation. As we shared stories over lunch, I was reminded of the power of “servant leadership,” a philosophy that MaryGrace embodies so fully. It’s about leading with heart, focusing first on the well-being of the community and the people within it. Her dedication inspires those around her, including myself, to lead in a manner that prioritizes the greater good. Thank you, MaryGrace, for showing us that true leadership is about service and making a difference in the lives of others. Your legacy inspires us all to contribute more passionately to our communities! #Leadership #CommunityService #ServantLeadership #Inspiration #HumanServices #SocialImpact

We are excited to collaborate with Mervin P. Antonio, one of the Center's newer affiliated professionals. Merv will collaborate with us around the virtue of generosity and offers practices and initiatives to cultivate a spirit of generosity, emphasizing the power of giving in its many forms to foster growth, collaboration, and positive change. At the heart of his leadership philosophy is the spirit of generosity. As the adage from Simon Sinek resonates, "Leadership is not about being in charge. It's about taking care of those in your charge." Leadership is not just a position of authority, but as an opportunity to give—be it through time, knowledge, ability, or resources. In his role as the Senior Director of Learning and Convening at the Center for Nonprofit Excellence, Merv has always recognized the power of giving in its many forms to foster growth, collaboration, and positive change. The PIE team had a great time learning from many amazing colleagues who are building and supporting community schools across the nation at the National Community Schools and Family Engagement Conference (CSxFE24). We were honored to spend time with our partners at ACT Now https://lnkd.in/gKnc7HQ9, who have received not one, but TWO Full-Service Community Schools (FSCS) state scaling grants for Illinois. PIE is serving as the external evaluation partner for both grants. The conference opened up with an engaging workshop for FSCS grantees. One key discussion at this session centered around shared leadership. No matter what sector you work in, we found the following reflection question incredibly helpful to consider when building partnerships: What kind of partnership are you looking to create 1) completely shared leadership with equal voice and consensus; 2) advising to get feedback that informs decisions; or 3) solo decision-making? Each type of partnership has its place, and it's important to be transparent at all times.

“We know our historical context, and yet we do not question its impact on our leadership work in the present day. We still see predominantly cis-hetero white men dominating the leadership space. We still see women struggling with what is referred to as “imposter syndrome,” which is in reality an arduous effort to succeed in systems that subtly and explicitly state that they do not belong. We witness people of color systematically overlooked for decision-making positions, even when those decisions are being made on behalf of their own communities, as we commonly witness in nonprofit, philanthropy, education, and even athletic sectors.” — Untapped Leadership: Harnessing the Power of Underrepresented Leaders by Jenny Vazquez-Newsum https://a.co/1Yi0Tou
