👉The Maritime and Port Authority of #Singapore (MPA), the Port of #Rotterdam Authority (PoR), and 20 partners in the Green & Digital Shipping Corridor have joined forces to reduce international shipping emissions by 20%-30% by 2030🍀. This agreement was reached during the third Green Corridor workshop held in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The Green & Digital Shipping Corridor, established in August 2022, aims to achieve zero and near-zero emissions shipping on the Rotterdam-Singapore route, with the ultimate goal of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050. The corridor has garnered strong support from global value-chain partners, including shipping companies, port authorities, fuel suppliers, banks, and universities. Efforts will focus on using zero and near-zero emission fuels in large container vessels, along with operational and digital efficiency. A study led by the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero-Carbon Shipping has explored various alternative fuels, including hydrogen. Working groups will address topics such as fuel demand, standards, safety, financing, and legislation as part of this initiative.🚢 #logistic #containers #transportations #freightforwarding #cargoships #generalcargoships #maritime #tankership #shiplovers #port #business

Today is World Maritime Day ⚓ The maritime industry plays an important role in the global economy as ships are carrying over 80% of global trade. Via our port, 350 million consumers in Europe are supplied on a daily basis with consumer goods and essential products, such as medicines and food. Businesses in and outside Europe are supplied with raw materials, semi-finished products and machinery. Without the maritime industry production facilities around the world would come to a halt. However, the port’s success today isn’t measured by the annual throughput of cargo, but by the impact we create for society. That is why today, the Port of Rotterdam Authority and our partners are building a zero-emission port. Where vessels have access to sustainable fuels and clean shore power. Where charging stations and production plants use renewable energy and where we produce green hydrogen at scale to power clean industry and transportation, in our port and well beyond it. #maritimeindustry #shipping #worldmaritimeday #sustainabledevelopmentgoals #sustainability #portofrotterdam

Construction starts on Stena Line’s first methanol-ready NewMax hybrid ferry Swedish ferry company Stena Line has marked a milestone on its journey towards sustainable shipping with the steel-cutting ceremony for the first of its methanol-ready ‘NewMax’ hybrid ferries. The construction began at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Weihai, China, last week. Last year, Stena Line announced that two new hybrid freight ferries had been ordered from Stena RoRo destined for the Belfast – Heysham route, with the first due to enter service in autumn 2025. The 147-meter-long ‘NewMax’ vessels have an efficient hull form to maximize freight volumes and their addition to the route will boost freight capacity by 80% compared to current ship capacity. The new hybrid ships will play a key role in Stena Line’s journey to sustainable fuel as they will both be able to operate on methanol fuel. https://bit.ly/41YnKJm #methanol #efuel #marine #maritime #futurefuel #sustainable

🌎 The shipping industry is facing an urgent challenge to reduce its carbon emissions, and container terminals have a crucial role to play in this effort. According to a recent document presented at CIDESPORT 2023, container terminals handle 90% of global trade, making them vital to reducing global emissions. Pioneers in sustainable solutions, several terminals are already implementing technologies such as electrification of port equipment, intelligent energy management, and green logistics solutions. By adopting sustainable practices, terminals can encourage other parts of the supply chain to do the same, creating a positive domino effect. So, how can terminals contribute to decarbonization? By investing in innovative technologies like renewable energy, electric equipment, and energy efficiency systems, promoting collaboration with other parts of the industry to develop joint solutions and share best practices, and adopting sustainable policies like setting clear emissions reduction targets and implementing programs to achieve them. The Port of Rotterdam is investing in a large-scale hydrogen production facility that will be used to power port equipment, while the Port of Hamburg is using shore power to reduce emissions from ships while they are docked. The Port of Singapore is developing a green logistics hub that will use sustainable transportation modes and energy sources, and the Port of Virginia is using clean electricity to reduce carbon emissions by 45% per container. These are just a few examples of the many ways that container terminals are working to reduce their environmental impact. By continuing to invest in innovative technologies and collaborate with other stakeholders, the maritime industry can make a significant contribution to the global effort to decarbonize. Let's navigate towards a more sustainable future for the maritime sector. #GreenPorts #BusinessOpportunities #Brazil #Rotterdam #EnergyTransition
