Three years ago, I was a Shopee user. But now, it has changed.
Last week marked my last day at Shopee!
After careful consideration, I decided to help companies with structured problem solving and presentations full-time.
- This essential skillset is crucial for all professionals and companies, and it will become increasingly important in the years ahead.
Back to Shopee—three years ago, my wife and I were regular, loyal users of the platform.
- I never thought I would work there.
- However, when Shopee approached me, I was thrilled by the opportunity.
It turned out to be one of the best learning phases of my life.
If you want to know why Shopee has been so successful, here are my experiences:
1. Data-Driven Culture:
- No decision is made without supporting facts, even the small ones.
- All data is centralized (single source of truth), and the business intelligence team plays a critical role in daily business decisions.
2. Smart and High-Ownership People:
- The people at Shopee are smart, humble, possess a growth mindset, and, most importantly, have high ownership of their work.
- The top executives strongly demonstrate this character, having been there since Shopee's early years.
- This culture extends to the middle and junior levels, showcasing the best of Gen Z.
3. Leading a Large and Critical Team:
- I managed the largest team of my career, larger than some entire companies.
Now, as I move on, I am grateful to have connected with the key people behind the app I used three years ago—from top executives to team members!
I wish Shopee and the people behind it all the best in the future.
