Dr. Crowder is proud to be participating in The Encore PerFOrm Trial. The purpose of this study is to show that a PFO may be closed safely and effectively using the Encore Medical PFO closure device. You ask, "What is a PFO?" A patent foramen ovale (PFO) is a slit-like opening between the upper right and left (atrial) chambers of the heart. A PFO is normal in a fetus (a baby still in the womb) as it directs blood flow past the developing lungs. After a baby is born, the PFO usually closes on its own. If the PFO does not close naturally, blood may flow abnormally through the slit-like opening and may cause a stroke. In the RedDrop One clinical trial, 100 subjects underwent testing to achieve a minimum volume of 150μL. Remarkably, only 3 subjects fell short of this threshold, resulting in an impressive 97% success rate. What's more, the speed at which these volumes were obtained is noteworthy. As depicted in the graph below, a vast majority of subjects yielded over 400μL of whole blood in under 5 minutes, with an average exceeding 550μL. In a realm where sample volumes are highly valued, RedDrop's collection efficiency truly shines.

The WONCA Europe Council, during its meeting on 6 June 2023 in Brussels approved the revision of the Definition of #generalpractice Practice/ #familymedicine Medicine. The decision, taken unanimously by all member organisations, ended the almost year-long process of updating the Definition, in which participated representatives of all WONCA Europe Network Organizations. The 2023 revision focuses on relatively new but critically important challenges for #gps related to #OneHealth, #planetaryhealth and the #sustainabledevelopmentgoals . According to the provisions of the amended #definition , these areas together form a bedrock for the functioning and development of #generalpractice / #familymedicine .
