Mistral’s API client has an optional “safe_mode” flag, which helps guardrail the LLM for safety. They do this is by pre-pending this statement into your prompt. Will be interesting to see if more model providers bake in guardrails and safety nets into the API itself. Seems like a useful feature.

There are lots of innovative applications for AIS AtoNs, their use is not just constrained to position marking.

LOAD ALLEVIATION FUNCTION (LAF) The Load Alleviation Function (LAF), which operates through the ailerons and two pairs of spoilers 4 and 5, becomes active in turbulence conditions and during maneuvers (pilot control authority is not modified). This function permits to alleviate the wing structure loads. The LAF becomes active in relation to the vertical load factor measured and thresholds. When this occurs, the Elevator Aileron Computers (ELACs) and the Spoiler and Elevator Computers (SECs) 1 and 2 calculate the surfaces deflection. The LAF orders are added to those generated by the normal law. The LAF is not available when: –The flight control law is not in the "normal law", –The slat/flap is not in clean configuration.

Let's talk "guardrails" for a second. In technology, we are almost always using this metaphor incorrectly. (This is NOT a knock on people, just an observation of shorthand that has become common.) Let's consider the guardrail in real life: it's the device (technical control) that keeps us on the road (although NOT without damage) when driving a car (process) fails. REALLY, we need to focus on PROCESS first and its value and place in mitigating risk and ensuring positive outcomes. Our guardrails are the technical controls that come into play AFTER our business processes fail. But we sure to like to jump ahead to guardrails! 😀
