Disruption alert - Port of Baltimore Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore was struck by a vessel this morning sending nearly the entire roadway structure into the water - The vessel was Singapore-registered Dali, operated by charter company Synergy Group and is time chartered by Maersk carrying Maersk customers’ cargo. Before shipping can resume into and out of the port, crews will need to pull debris out of the water and clear the 50-foot-deep channel that ships use, said William P. Doyle, a former director of the port who now heads the Dredging and Marine Construction Association of America. The Port of Baltimore — the biggest handler of US imports and exports of cars and light trucks — looks to be out of commission indefinitely. The resulting bottleneck could accelerate a shift of goods through West Coast ports. Another crucial question: Which other ports have spare capacity to handle the Ro-Ro vessels that carry automobiles if Baltimore is closed for an extended period? We will provide updates on vessel reroutings as they are determined - Follow us here on LinkedIn for more updates. We share our sincere condolences to all that were affected by this crash. #Baltimore #BridgeCrash #TruckingNews #Imports #PortOfBaltimore

In honor of #WorldTradeMonth, The Florida Ports Council shares how Florida's efficient seaports are reaching new milestones following years of global supply chain disruptions. JAXPORT is growing following progress on its major infrastructure projects to enhance container, auto, and breakbulk (non-containerized) cargo-handling operations. "Investments in port infrastructure have certainly contributed to the growing strength of our seaports," Florida Ports Council President and CEO Mike Rubin said. "Remaining an attractive and competitive seaport state will be essential to ensuring that Florida continues to secure even more cargo volume." Continual investment for the future... Associated British Ports & DP World are ensuring the largest ships in the world can be accommodated in the port city of #southampton by widening the approach channel to comfortably get 400m long Cat 6 & 7 containerships "around the knuckle" to berths SCT1-4 whilst another ship of the same size is handled on SCT5. Also, widening the channel means other cruise and cargo vessels on berths 101-109 can be comfortably accommodated whilst these giant ships arrive and depart the container terminal. Boskalis have various vessels carrying out the work. With forthcoming alliance changes, there could be the potential of up to 4 or 5 of these giants calling every week in addition to the other deep & short sea container services. #hubport #shipping #logistics #location #globaltrade #containershipping #thesolent #hampshire Maritime UK Solent Solent Partners Hampshire Chamber of Commerce Ernst Schulze Andrew Bowen Aart Hille Ris Lambers Sarah Dougherty John Trenchard Alastair Welch

https://lnkd.in/g-Rf4Zhp Things continue to evolve in providing attractive solutions for shippers through the busiest logistics center in North America. Along the I-10/UPRR supply chain lane into Arizona this creates expanded capacity and provides choice to shippers. Having the 5th largest metro region in the US so truck-dependent was never healthy and new service creates efficiencies for the rapidly expanding distribution hub there. We see more of this dynamic occurring along the same corridor east of Phoenix into New Mexico and Texas, and also along the I-40/ BNSF route. The TradePort Corridor is building truck/rail logistics/clean energy/industrial infrastructure hubs along each in places like Kingman, Winslow, Albuquerque, and at Santa Teresa (NM).
INTERMODAL: A pair of announcements from Union Pacific Railroad in the last 24 hours. Union Pacific will expanded its international intermodal service from Port Houston to Chicago, Memphis and Kansas City. Union Pacific will also be opening up a new international intermodal terminal in Phoenix. In Phoenix, the idea is to convert some of the drays running between Port of Los Angeles, Port of Long Beach and Phoenix every day and also address how #CARB regulations on zero-emission vehicles will likely raise trucking costs in the upcoming years, making the rail more price competitive. Plus, I think UP is banking on the idea of BCOs gradually moving their distribution centers into Arizona and Nevada to avoid the regulatory environment in California. Lots of moving pieces, as captured by Michael Angell.

Something about this smells very off…. Another Massive container ship loses power near NYC Bridge days after Baltimore Key Bridge. In a recent incident that highlights the complexities of maritime logistics, the M/V APL Qingdao, a massive 89,000-ton container ship, lost propulsion power while traversing the Kill Van Kull, a crucial shipping lane between Staten Island and Bayonne, New Jersey. The vessel, registered in Malta and owned by French shipping giant CMA CGM, was en route to Norfolk, Virginia, when the incident occurred near the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge. Thanks to the swift action of three tugboats escorting the APL Qingdao, the ship was guided to safety and regained propulsion shortly after. This event comes on the heels of another significant incident where a cargo vessel collided with Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge, resulting in a tragic loss of life and disruption to maritime transit. These incidents underscore the importance of robust safety measures and protocols in the shipping industry. The Coast Guard’s requirement for a detailed casualty report and certification of the vessel’s propulsion system before resuming its voyage is a testament to the stringent safety standards in place. #MaritimeSafety #Logistics #ShippingIndustry #CyberAttack #technology #CyberSecurityAwareness

Shipping giant Maersk says Baltimore port reentry decision is near as collapsed bridge cleanup progresses A.P. Moller-Maersk anticipates a potential return to the Port of Baltimore soon, pending progress in the collapsed bridge clean-up. Charles Van der Steene, president of Maersk North America, notes that if the channel is open by the end of May, network services could resume by the end of the month. Final decisions on rerouting vessels are expected within the next five to ten days. Unified Command, overseeing the cleanup, will authorize the port's reopening. Maersk vessels may start arriving at the Port of Baltimore by the end of May or early June, based on cleanup progress. #Maersk #PortofBaltimore #BridgeCollapseCleanup #ShippingNews #LogisticsUpdate #UnifiedCommand #SupplyChain #Maritime #PortOperations Stay informed: https://lnkd.in/duih2NMj

Today marks one year since the first anchorage code of conduct in Canada took effect at the Port of Vancouver. We would like to thank the hundreds of ship operators who diligently reviewed the code of conduct prior to arrival and followed its procedures while at anchor at the Port of Vancouver and around the Southern Gulf Islands. Your sustained efforts helped further reduce noise and light disruptions from anchored ships—a key concern for neighbouring communities. Informed by industry, First Nations and local communities, the anchorage code of conduct is one of the many initiatives developed as part of our Active Vessel Traffic Management Program aimed at building a more competitive, resilient and sustainable maritime supply chain at the Port of Vancouver.
