Maersk Enhances SLB Service with New Damietta Port Call Amid Peak Reefer Season Shipping Arabia, May 10, 2024 — As the grape season approaches, marking a high point in Intra-European reefer trade, Maersk has strategically added Egypt’s Damietta Port to the rotation of its SLB (North Sea) service. This adjustment aims to meet the anticipated surge in demand during the peak period from mid-May to mid-June. To accommodate this seasonal increase, Maersk has not only included Damietta in its service rotation but also upsized the service and introduced additional capacity through alternative routings. The company advises customers to plan ahead and secure bookings early to navigate the peak season effectively. The inclusion of Damietta enhances Maersk's service offerings, linking directly from Egypt to major North European ports including London, Rotterdam, Antwerp, and Bremerhaven. This expansion ensures a reliable weekly service, bolstering supply chain speed and flexibility for Maersk’s customers. The revised port rotation for the SLB North Sea service will now feature the following sequence: London, Rotterdam, Antwerp, Bremerhaven, Ashdod, Haifa, Alexandria, Port Said, and Damietta. This update is set to commence on May 20 with the vessel Maersk Izmir on voyage 419N, marking the first sailing under the new rotation. Maersk indicated in its advisory that it remains vigilant in monitoring market conditions and is prepared to make further adjustments as needed to minimize disruptions. Customers are encouraged to stay in contact with their local Customer Experience or sales representatives for any inquiries or further updates. This proactive approach by Maersk underscores its commitment to maintaining efficient and responsive supply chain solutions for its clients, particularly during critical peak periods in the reefer market. Container shipping company Hapag-Lloyd AG will charge higher prices for freight to and from Israel. The increase is a surcharge for ”war risk”. ”The surcharge will take effect from Jan. 1, 2024 and applies to all containers and cargo types,” a press release from the carrier reads. On the route between Northern Europe or Mediterranean countries and Israel, the surcharge will be USD 40 per twenty-foot container, and freight to and from anywhere else in the world will be double that, at USD 80 per container. Both the Israeli shipping company ZIM Integrated Shipping Services and Danish A.P. Moller - Maersk have announced that they have changed the routes for certain ships to avoid the Red Sea region. #shipping #containershipping #oceanfreight #freight #pfp #pomonafreightparklogisticsgroup

MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company and other MLO’s like A.P. Moller - Maersk are implementing a contingency surcharge. For a 12,000 TEU vessel this works out to US$18 million? Is this carriers being opportunistic to help boost revenue or is this justified / necessary? What are yiu thoughts and how will supply chains be affected? #freightforwarding #shipping # opportunism

LOGISTICS NEWS!! Global Shipping Lines Extend Vessel-Sharing Agreement Four Asian and European container lines are extending their vessel-sharing agreement as rival carriers reset their alliances in a market beset by plentiful capacity and low freight rates. China’s Cosco Shipping, CMA CGM of France, Taiwan’s Evergreen Marine and Hong Kong-based Orient Overseas Container Line, a unit of COSCO, agreed to continue sharing ship capacity through 2032 under the Ocean Alliance pact they formed in 2017. Carriers say the shipping alliances allow them to offer broader geographic coverage while bringing costs down, and the companies said Tuesday that the deal extension will ensure they can continue to provide steady service. Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd said a pool of around 290 vessels will be used in the collaboration, offering a combined capacity of 3.4 million containers, measured in 20-foot equivalents, with Maersk deploying 60% of the ships and Hapag-Lloyd 40%. Adding to complexities, recent attacks on merchant vessels in the Red Sea have forced shipping lines to divert their vessels by thousands of miles, which has increased fuel costs and sent freight rates higher. #redseacrisis #logistics #supplychain #shippingcontainers #shippinglines #COSCO #EVERGREEN #OOCL #maersk #WSJ
