DAZN continue to follow their new platform approach of securing a sports property's #OTT product and integrating it into their own core platform. This deal with the PGA TOUR follows the model they've launched with National Football League (NFL) Game Pass internationally, as well as FIBA. What was most interesting about the game pass relationship is how they tried to migrate existing customers into the #DAZN ecosystem. You can look around for more on that if you're not familiar (or just DM me :)) The goal of being the ultimate sports aggregator is a role several big tech firms are trying to take (i.e. Amazon and YouTube) as discoverability becomes the aim of the game of gated destinations. And whilst being integrated into a #streaming service that's available globally sounds really appealing for rights owners, you still have to consider the challenge or confusion fans may have with the need to stop subscribing direct with the sports property of choice, and instead start paying and accessing via a 3rd party platform you may never have watched or engaged with before... that being said - the rights owners gets a nice guarantee of revenue, takes less of the responsibility around tech and marketing, so that challenge isn't really one they need to worry themselves about as much as the platform itself. https://lnkd.in/e252FSMj

This is amazing! Overall nearly 5m people watched the Darts final, alongside many more who followed the story as it unfolded in the news and on the TV. Who knew Darts could ever capture people's attention like this? Although it shouldn't necessarily be surprising, given a few signals we've seen along the way.. 1. Sports is smashing it out of the park from an audience perspective. Sky Sports audiences are up overall year on year and tournaments across all sports are breaking live viewing records. 2. A young talent coming up the ranks to (almost!) win, apparently from nowhere, especially in a sport where there's an 'establishment' has happened before - we saw similar in the US open with Emma Raducanu. Fictionalised in Ted Lasso, in Rocky, in so many epic films - we love an under-dog story. 3. When a sporting story makes it out in to the mainstream, it pulls audiences back in - see what happened with Drive to Survive and F1. Thank you Netflix. What is interesting about this Darts final is the profile of the audience it brought back with it - more upmarket (64% ABC1 vs. 47%) and younger (23% 16-34 vs. 13%). 46% of the audience were new to watching darts on TV.   I wouldn't count myself as a typical sports fan - I know little about the rules, or the players. But, I love the fact sport can pull people like me in with the stories, the rivalries and the nail-biting-edge-of-my-seat-can-they-do-it excitement.
