The legal industry is undergoing a significant transformation driven by the widespread adoption of technology. This phenomenon, known as legaltech, is creating exciting opportunities for a diverse range of professionals, including tech innovators, product managers, and legal consultants. Commenting on the same, Partner Hemant Krishna said, “Before the public debut of ChatGPT, the legal tech industry was seen as a poorer cousin of the fintech industry. AI has reshuffled that hierarchy considerably. We have seen legal-tech start-ups with AI offerings get acquired by traditional legal publishing houses for millions of dollars. It is easier for a good lawyer to pick up general skills like templatisation and prompt engineering than the other way around.” Read more at: https://lnkd.in/g453rarX #LegalTech #Innovation #CareersInLaw

"Legal research, traditionally time-consuming and labor-intensive, is being revolutionized by startups employing AI to automate the process. These platforms analyze vast legal databases, significantly reducing the time and effort required for legal professionals to access relevant information." The opportunity for new startups lies in addressing the pain points of legal professionals grappling with extensive research requirements better than a simple ChatGPT query. Even if an LLM is the engine behind the tool, in order to be as useful as possible, it needs to have features specific to legal professionals. At LEAP Legal Software UK and LEAP Legal Software Ireland, we have always been at the forefront of innovation. Ten years ago, we were the first UK based vendor to truly embrace the cloud and our growth in those ten years has been testament to our customers recognising the value of innovation and adopting new technologies that have helped them build successful businesses. Some of our competition have recently and finally embraced the cloud and have released a true cloud solution to their customers. Cloud is a technology from 15 years ago. AI as the next big thing. Today, we released the second of our AI solutions to market. Our first, LawY, has been warmly received. LawY acts as your firm’s trusted AI legal assistant addressing your legal questions with instant AI-generated answers that are then verified by professional lawyers. This blend of cutting-edge AI and human expertise is at the heart of LawY’s service, empowering you with accurate answers you can trust. It assists in many tasks, including conducting legal research, drafting documents and reviewing case law and legislation, but also assist in proof reading, grammar checking and summarising information. Essentially anything you might want to ask ChatGPT, if ChatGPT were a lawyer. Leveraging AI to help customers develop a deeper understanding of the matter is where I see its most useful application. Every matter contains thousands of documents containing lots of data that ordinarily would need to be sifted and analysed individually, with notes taken to build up a picture of the case through detailed research. This can take up a lot of time, some of which will be charged to the client but some undoubtedly being lost due to inefficiencies or to hit a fixed fee. With our latest innovation - Matter AI - this can be done in seconds. It uses cutting edge AI algorithms to analyse the contents of your LEAP documents, enabling you to streamline your workflow and improve your productivity. It can summarise documents, work out timelines, identify differences in statements and find important data from thousands of documents in a matter of seconds. AI is the future.

I see potential for AI in contract automation and management. This is an area where technology can easily *enhance* clarity and accuracy, as opposed to marring them. Manual contract management comes with a great degree of inaccuracy and risk. I'm optimistic about the development of startups whose solutions are unique and differentiated from one another. #AI #LegalTech #LegalContracts

Legal as a guinea pig? As several in-house legal teams find themselves under pressure to "find an AI win", they're forging stronger relationships with developers/IT departments in their businesses and offering themselves up as guinea pigs to try new applications. During an interview for #FTInnovativeLawyers last week, one team showed me a legal gen AI chatbot they built internally with developers. They told me, "We're 100% confident in the tech, we're just socialising it in the legal team to build trust before we roll it out to the wider business." Other GCs have told me about how they've pushed the legal department to the front of the queue for Co-Pilot licenses, or how they've got the whole legal team testing their business's customer-facing gen AI tools. These tests are familiarising colleagues with the tech and making sure the AI behaves in-line with the business's responsible AI guidelines. At RSGI we speak to over 300 legal teams annually about how they're transforming to meet new business needs. If you're interested in attending one of our events for the in-house community or would like to learn more about how we can support your legal team in achieving its goals, please get in touch. 2wLmao - "poor cousins of Fintech" .. On a serious note, legal industry needs the pilots if only to repurpose the human capital to more productive uses than parsing docs. Gotta drive that yield on these assets
