I am most looking forward to exploring and completing my thesis year at college this upcoming school year. What’s one thing that could instantly make your day better? A warm smile from a friend. Who inspires you? My godmother--she is the most generous person I know, very hardworking and talented but she is so solid in her reliance on God. What’s the most impressive thing you can do? I build guitars. What are you passionate about? Adaptive reuse projects that help house or provide safe spaces for low-income families. If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be? Tacos. Favorite part about the internship? Meaningful conversations with other interns that show me more of God's heart for His creation.

I have officially reached the end of my 12 month internship under the guidance of NPN architects and BZ Three Built Environment Consultants. I couldn’t have asked for a better work place environment as a “fresh out of university” Profesional Architect in the making. As I prepare for the next chapter architecture has for me, I would like to share a few things that I have learnt throughout my internship. 1. Ask! Don’t be afraid to ask for help, that’s how you learn. Be inquisitive, never leave a question unanswered. 2. Patience. Be patient with yourself. You’ve just started your professional career, you’re not supposed to know everything. 3. Draw. If all else fails go back to your drawing board with a piece of paper and a pen or pencil in your hand. I cannot wait to apply this pocket of knowledge as I further seek to learn from everything and everyone around me.

The recent article on 'Unpaid Architectural Internships in India’ by ArchitectureLive! has sparked a crucial discussion within the architectural fraternity, and we cannot thank them enough for it. We applaud and appreciate their effort and courage to speak so boldly about this issue. #UnpaidInternships has been an ongoing issue within the #architecturepractice, and sadly continues to persist. Under the name of #passion for work, or invaluable work #experience, #exploitation and #unfairness are rampant. There is no denying, that architecture practices have to invest time, energy, and resource in training interns. But isn't that a part and parcel of the process? The most important question here is, don't the #interns add any value to the firm? While the standard market rate is a myth within architecture, an acceptable one should at least be unanimously acknowledged. Taking one step forward, we would like to turn the pyramid of hierarchy around and ask all the architecture interns for once, what does fair pay mean to you?
