We understand that the news about Carpetright entering administration is disheartening. Carpetright, like many retailers, faced numerous challenges, particularly those affecting businesses selling big-ticket items. A combination of factors, including a significant reduction in consumer spending due to cost-of-living pressures, lower home sales, and a debilitating cyber-attack, made it impossible for the business to continue as it was.   The sale of 54 stores and the brand to Tapi has saved over 350 jobs, giving the Carpetright brand a chance to continue and flourish under new ownership.   To support employees facing redundancy, Tapi has funded a service through Clarity Recruiting to offer FREE employment workshops. These workshops cover essential skills such as CV preparation, interview techniques, and job search strategies. Additionally, Tapi has reached out to numerous retailers to introduce affected Carpetright staff to new roles. These retailers have been asked to prioritize applications, helping colleagues return to work as quickly as possible. “What’s our first step when we start a new project for a new client?” Of course there are timelines and budgets and logistics to iron out – but really, my first priority is making sure I totally understand my client’s brand and their vision. In a conversation recently, someone asked me why I would fly across the country just to walk through a store (when there are obviously all the plans and photos I need online). In short, because you have to have boots on the ground to actually know how a fit-out will be put together. I flew down to Queenstown and after securing that particular client, I was looking for these things: 1. The overall vibe and feel of the store 2. How it was built (and therefore, how it could be built better) 3. The fixtures and fittings used (often noting what I immediately spotted as needlessly expensive and wasn’t going to add to the project) Essentially, the walk-through was about figuring out the essence of the brand. From there, it’s much easier for me to see where budget is best spent – versus where it’s getting wasted.
