Across the country, summer traditions mean picnics and barbecues. But for some families, summer highlights the challenge of food insecurity. Many families that rely on free or reduced school-provided meals struggle to feed their children when school is out of session during the summer months. During these months, 30 million children face unreliable access to nutritious meals, as reported by Feed the Children. Ensuring every child has healthy meals is vital. Help Us Fight Food Insecurity in Texas Did you know that nearly 4 million Texans struggle with food insecurity? That's about one in every eight residents, facing a daily challenge to find enough food for a healthy, active life. Our PB&J Days model shows how we can make a real impact together. If just 47,619 people contribute $20 each, we can make enough PB&J sandwiches to make a significant difference. This represents less than 1% of our state’s population coming together to fight food insecurity. One sandwich may seem small, but it can be the first step toward discussions to provide greater assistance and support for those in need. It all starts with a sandwich. Join us in making a difference. Together, we can solve this. To learn more about how you can start a PB&J Day in your area or support us directly in San Antonio, please go to our website, pbandjdays.com. #food #SpreadKindness #pbandjdays #MakeADifference #help #service #homeless #endhunger

In the past five years, our total food collection amounted to around 2 million pounds. However, in the current fiscal year alone, we are on track to exceed that amount. Why? Well to put it simply: we had to collect more because more people need our help than ever before. We're serving 56x more people monthly than any time in our history. And when people need our assistance, we do whatever we can to help. All of the food we rescue from places like Shaw's Supermarkets, Stop & Shop, Chick-fil-A Restaurants, and more is one of the key ways we are able to stock our pantry with fresh protein, fresh produce, and pantry staples. For what we aren't able to rescue, we buy. This allows us to ensure that our pantry is always stocked with culturally relevant and diverse foods that meet the needs of our community. It's no easy task rescuing more than 30,000 pounds of food alone a day and helping nearly 200 people a day access food, clothing, diapers, and other critical necessities. But with a team as small as ours, you do what you have to. Want to help us continue to ensure everyone in our community has what they need? Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/eR6ZFNNn

Did you know that food insecurity affects rural America in the following ways: *In 2021, 11% of rural households were food insecure. *9 out of 10 counties with the highest food insecurity rates are rural. *Rural communities make up 63% of all U.S counties, but 87% of counties with the highest food insecurity rates. *Food insecurity is linked to a wide range of negative health outcomes, and rural Americans are at higher risk for poor health outcomes than their urban counterparts. *Although food security is slightly higher in rural areas than in urban areas, 12.5% of individuals living in rural communities were food insecure in 2019. Your dollars make a difference. Every $1 = 2 meals. Start your new year off right and donate today!
There is only one place for neighbors to buy groceries in Sabetha, a rural Kansas town that is home to fewer than 3,000 people. That means if someone can't find the nutritious foods that meet their needs—or isn't able to afford them—they are left with little to no options. Luckily, the town's community food pantry is there to help fill the meal gap when times are difficult and uncertain.

2023 was a year like no other in my career. In the end, the food pantry I manage served 2.2 million pounds of food to about 150,000 individuals in 42,000 households. To do this: we doubled our productivity from 50 clients per hour to 100 and weekly hours of service from 6 to 7.5 we increased the number of unique families served each week from less than 200 to more than 800 we eliminated quantity limits from most food categories to ensure families get what they need we shortened wait times and replaced standing in lines outdoors with indoor seating and bathroom access we upgraded our interior, remediating an asbestos floor, painting the walls and reconfiguring space for improved flow we implemented a Latino Program that raised the share of Spanish-speaking clients from less than 10% to more than 20% we upgraded our exterior through landscaping, carpentry, striping the parking lot we cut costs and reversed the post-pandemic decline in revenue It is not possible for a food pantry to measure the outcomes we hope to effect, such as increased educational performance and decreased chronic disease. But knowing that we delivered more than $5 million worth of food into low income households, 80% of which are people of color, fills me with tremendous pride. In 2024, I expect that the focus will be on increasing the quality of our relationship with non-English speaking clients. A donor has enabled us to hire translators. As we improve our communication, I expect we can find ways to increase the quantity, quality and dignity of the service we provide. If you’ve read this far, consider one more statistic: at NEFP, our cost to produce one shopping cart is $10. If you support us or any pantry with a monthly donation, it doesn’t take much, maybe just a fraction of your hourly wage rate. Or two drinks at Starbucks. Or half a month of Netflix. I invite you, wherever you are, to be a part of the fight to reduce food insecurity, increase economic stability and thus community health. You can invest your time or money in my pantry or in a pantry close to where you are. Thanks for your consideration.

It's hard to find the words when you read a post like this ... 😔 In a time saturated with health advice on all kinds of foods, we must never forget there are people struggling to get even the basics of nutrition. Rickets causes weak soft bones and is a completely preventable bone disease. When a mother is able to eat Vitamin D rich foods during pregnancy, as well as her child when young and growing, bones are able to become dense and strong. We all help in our own ways, independently and through brilliant non-profit organisations like The Feed. If you can help them in any way, please read the article below and get in touch with them 🙏 #thankyouforyoursupport #ourfoodmakesadifference
"We’ve got children with bowed legs because they’re so deficient in vitamins." This is life in Norwich for some people in 2024, described by a headteacher. Whilst it's a Fine City for some, the reality for many others is that affording enough food is a real challenge. This is why we set up our Social Supermarket to provide low-cost groceries. Everything in the photo costs a total of just £5.
