💸 "The engineers that change jobs the most are usually the ones who are the highest paid." 💸 I don't know who said this first, but I'm saying it now, and I'll say it again! Company loyalty is dead and expecting people to stay at jobs for 10 , 5 , or even 3 years is unrealistic. If you're hiring and discrediting qualified candidates because their past tenures aren't up to your subjective standards, you're doing yourself a disservice. People leave jobs for more money all the time (would you really take the dinner with Jay-Z instead of $500K?) People get unlucky - They join companies and get caught in layoffs (FILO - First-In, Last-Out, or in this case, Last-In, First-Out), the job doesn't end up being what they were sold in the interview process, their manager turns out to be a toxic leader, they find a company with better remote flexibility, and the list goes on... As much as I hate that candidates have to explain the gaps in their resume or reasons for leaving jobs they didn't stay at for 3 years, if you're throwing out resumes for these reasons, maybe you should at least talk to these candidates and get their side of the story rather than only taking what's on paper at face value. Hiring in the technology sector is still highly competitive due to all of the layoffs from last year. So you get selected for an interview, how are you going to stand out from the stiff competition? Here are some recommendations: 👉 Go above and beyond when it comes to company research (check all socials, linkedin posts, look-over employee profiles, and even read product reviews). 👉 Test the product! Then test the competitor products. 👉 Prepare some analysis on what you feel the company is doing really well and then have one or two suggestions on how they could be more competitive (deliver this lightly so feelings don't get hurt). 👉 Create a portfolio of work samples that can be shared with interviewers. Nothing works better than showcasing past successes and giving tangible examples of your work. 👉 Verbally express your enthusiasm for the company, people and product 👉 Write thank you letters to the interviewers after each interview. You got this!

Are you pausing hiring for the rest of the year? You may want to rethink that. As we approach the close of 2023, the year end layoffs we're so familiar with have begun. This trend leaves remarkable engineering talents available at Q4 close. Now is a unique window of opportunity that not only allows companies to grow their engineering teams but also offers these talented individuals a chance to find their new professional "home" before the holiday rush begins. ✨ Right now there is an immediate Talent Pool. Recent layoffs have flooded the market with stellar engineering talent actively seeking new opportunities before the end of the year. They want to interview NOW! 🔄 Seizing this moment to conduct interviews could give your company a competitive edge. With fewer organizations actively hiring, you'll be navigating a less crowded field, allowing you to connect with and secure top-tier talent quickly. 🔍 Delaying the hiring process until 2024, however, might tip the scales in favor of the candidates. Waiting until the new year could mean competing against industry giants, including FAANG companies and other Fortune 500 enterprises, this creates a more challenging hiring landscape, financially and can elongate your hiring timelines. Time is of the essence in the ever-evolving job market. Reach out to me today to see what kinds of resources we have to immediately kick start your interviews! 🚀 Let's make the most of this year-end hiring opportunity! #talentacquisition #engineering #opportunityknocks

Seeing companies hiring in bulk for a single position, only to conduct mass layoffs just a few months later? It's a recurring issue in the job market, and it's important to ask the right questions during the hiring process. Simple answers like "replacement" or "new position" won't cut it. Dig deeper and ask about the reasons for replacement or why the new position is necessary. If you're dealing with volume hiring for a single position, whether it's for internal or client purposes, it's crucial to understand what happens when there's no work available. Will it lead to redundancy, support work, or unpaid leave? Completely fine to ask these questions.
