Day of the Seafarer 2024 Once again, the annual Day of the Seafarer (DotS) on 25 June. The Day of the Seafarer (25 June) was established in a resolution adopted by the 2010 Diplomatic Conference in Manila to adopt the revised STCW Convention. Its stated purpose is to recognize the unique contribution made by seafarers from all over the world to international seaborne trade, the world economy and civil society as a whole. The resolution "encourages Governments, shipping organizations, companies, shipowners and all other parties concerned to duly and appropriately promote the Day of the Seafarer and take action to celebrate it meaningfully". Day of the Seafarer is recognized by the United Nations as an observance. 2024 top tips for safety at sea As per IMO, for 2024, the campaign will look at seafarers' contribution to making the maritime sector "a safer workplace" As part of the campaign,IMO is asking seafarers to share a picture of them in their working environment, highlighting how they keep their workplace safe. IMO#SafetyTipsAtSea Be creative, share the equipment you use to keep your workplace safe or any special training you received, and tell us how you work to enhance maritime safety and security, in tandem with the protection of the marine environment. Let us know how you keep up with the pace of technological change and innovation to stay safe onboard. #IMO #AsaferWorkPlace #25JUNE #ThinkMaritime #CareAboutLifeBelowWater

Today, on the Day of the Seafarer, we celebrate and honor the heartbeat of Global Trade. Established by the 2010 Diplomatic Conference in Manila, this day recognizes the pivotal role seafarers play in international seaborne trade, the global economy, and civil society. As an independent global logistics consultant, I have seen firsthand the crucial impact seafarers have on ensuring the smooth operation of global supply chains. Their dedication and resilience are the backbone of the logistics industry, facilitating the movement of goods across the world. Let’s take this opportunity to express our gratitude and respect for seafarers, acknowledging their vital role in connecting the world through trade. Their tireless efforts ensure that goods, resources, and essential commodities reach our shores, contributing significantly to our daily lives and the global economy. I want to use this opportunity to salute every crewing personnel, shipping companies and institutions who has seen reasons to be engaging Nigerian seafarers globally. Personally, I have seen a spike in the engagement of Nigerian seafarers on the world fleets recently. This is because we (Nigerian seafarers) are delivering on our jobs, and this is being sensed by all, particularly top managements and crewing agents, the reports are getting impressive. Some have travelled to different countries to obtain foreign licenses. Our national tickets getting stronger by the day as the seafarers are advertising it with positive work attitude and ethics professionally coupled with the effort of the authorities. Every ship a Nigerian board is always filled with fun aside carrying our duties strictly because we are happy people. We sign off with good appraisals and recommendations. Some may have faced different kinds of superiors with some level of treatment, but they don't let that deter the morale because this was how the Filipinos made their breakthrough. Some of the treatment from reports are as a result of surprises from superiors who do not believe that Nigerians are this good as maritime professional. We are excellent, all we want is more opportunities to showcase our talents. This is also a call to all Nigerians seafarers globally on the world fleets to keep the flag high as we have shown the world that we can. Let us keep on building on this and transform our green passport to be easy ship boarding passport. Congratulations to those sailing on foreign ships and congratulations in advance to those of us who will join in the future by the grace of God. ---This post is out of excitement of colleagues who are currently working in their dreamed working environments. #MarineEngineer #NigerianSeafarers #CruiseShips #Offshore Maria Dixon idorenyin Ubongabasi

Today we celebrate Day of the Seafarer and pay tribute to the thousands of seafarers worldwide that are the backbone of global trade. Every day, 13,000 seafarers sailing onboard the beautiful, blue Maersk vessels work tirelessly to keep global supply chains running smoothly, delivering essential supplies such as food and medicine to societies and individuals worldwide. Working onboard a container vessel is not without risk and having a safe working environment is vital. When discussing this with my seafaring colleagues – and observing their work during operations – it is clear that it all comes down to trust. Trust in your colleagues. Trust in the systems and procedures. And trust in the sense that you are able to speak up, ask questions and get clarity when things are uncertain. Trust is so fundamental, but it is not a given – it requires dedication to build it and to nurture it. So, today, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all my seafaring colleagues - for your commitment, for your hard work, and for your efforts in creating an environment of trust that will ultimately keep our people safe. #Maersk #DayOfTheSeafarer2024 #Lifeatsea
