However, equality cannot always mean equal treatment. Because what sounds like a solution for gender discrimination can actually turn out dangerous. Men and women are physically different, and these differences need to be acknowledged, especially in #science and medical #treatment. For example, women often show different symptoms when having a heart attack than men, which can lead to a late diagnosis. Furthermore, the dosing of medications is often based on studies with male participants, however, due to differences in physique and hormones, the dosage would need to be adjusted. Otherwise, the medication is not/less helpful for many women or, in the worst case, can put them at risk. Even in times of artificial intelligence, we donโt seem to solve the problem known as the gender data gap: GEO reported that AI used to diagnose breast cancer is less accurate for women as it was trained with data based on men.
