ServiceSource Delaware employee Dawn Mathu, a case manager at the Riverfront Community Program in Wilmington, recently spoke to participants in the Leadership, Empowerment, Advancement, and Development (LEAD) training program for direct support professionals (DSPs). LEAD is 9-week training series for professional leadership development presented by the National Leadership Consortium on Developmental Disabilities in partnership with the Delaware Division of Developmental Disabilities. Dawn participated in last year’s LEAD training, and organizers of the program were so impressed with her role and participation that they invited her to speak with to new cohort of DSPs. Dawn’s remarks focused on how the program helped her better understand the type of employee she is, as well as ways to become an effective leader. “Supporting people with disabilities and helping them live more fulfilling lives is such a rewarding career,” says Dawn. “It was an honor to share my knowledge and experience with developing leaders in my profession.”

This week Shelley A. Davis and I were fortunate to attend The Institute on Public Policy for People with Disabilities' 2023 Executive Leadership Summit. I found the energy in the room to be palpable as Intellectual & Developmental Disability (IDD) industry leaders discussed the field's most pressing topics such as the workforce crisis, service provider M&A, and technology for IDD consumers. It was also wonderful to have so many grantee partners under one roof. I tip my hat to Kathy Carmody and her Board of Directors for organizing such a great convening. The Coleman Foundation

I had a fantastic time at the Regional Lions Leadership Institute in Charlottesville. I met club leaders from across the state. I had the opportunity to deliver a brief presentation on Sunday "Developing New Member Programming That Deepens Connection" . I shared four strategies that are important to any onboarding process: 1. Personalize the experience so they do not feel like just another number. 2. Facilitate mentorship opportunities to establish second-phase connection early on. 3. Recruitment and retention are not mutually exclusive. It's a continuum with engagement as the force multiplier. 4. Do not casually review the high level metrics once a year, review efforts deeply, intentionally seek feedback and be agile to societal changes because they will come, indeed.

Want to learn more about systems thinking?
that feeling when everything you've been working on has been leading up to this point? that is how i feel about announcing the 8 month systems leadership program that i will be hosting in partnership with Dana Shen this year. at the systems school we've been working with clients on systemic change, designing and deliverying courses on systems thinking, and hosting communities of practice for some time. but joining up with dana has been the best complement to all of this. she completes the offerings by bringing her meditation practice and insights from work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and wisdom from her own Ngarrindjeri community. this is going to be an incredible journey. we cannot wait to share this with you 💫 join us on february 6th(australaisa)/february 5th (america's) for our launch and information session as we introduce the program which starts march 2024. register for the info session here https://lnkd.in/g6hKWEVJ and read more about the program here https://lnkd.in/gm_m2jNw
