November 2nd is Día de los Muertos. A Mexican celebration that has transcended geographical borders and is now a worldwide known festivity. ⛔ Yes, it has been co-opted by mainstream media (James Bond movies and such) ⛔ Yes, it was not celebrated as such in the entire country (even though the government made it mandatory as part of primary school curriculum to incentivize national identity and patriotism.) ⛔Yes, the celebration as we all know it now has a mix of Catholic ideas in it, and christians, overall, don’t like it (hence the urge from their part to discredit it and label it as ‘worshiping the death’.) However, it is still the only real Mexican festivity that I do celebrate. Why? Because it connects me to my ancient wisdom. 👉🏾 See, we existed before Spain decided to claim they owned us. 👉🏾 We had a belief system before the Church decided we were wrong. 👉🏾 We had our cosmological vision of the world. 👉🏾 We understood that we are more than material bodies and that the true meaning of life was in the spirit that we collectively shared. That’s why, across native groups, despite their location, there’s a common ideology: "We are just passing through this realm, and our spirit is alive as long as we are remembered." Some even believed that you could be ‘dead’ while still breathing if your spirit was not in communion with the rest, or if you weren’t remembered. Día de los Muertos reminds me of two things I stand for: ✍🏾 1. Critical thinking is crucial to make choices. Every day, all day, people are telling us what to think, what to buy, who to vote for… I want to invite you to listen to those messages and before deciding anything ask yourself ‘who wins if I do this' 'who wins if I think this?’ If you answer honestly, you will start making choices aligned with who you are KNOWING the full impact of them. 💛 2. Celebrate the spirit and wisdom of your people. They are with you, protecting you, guiding you, holding you, every day. Let your ancient wisdom breathe in you.

You could even choose to send a positive note to a stranger, after all, kindness doesn't have to be earnt!
