📢 Interesting Facts 📢 Who doesn't love interesting, unknown facts 😁 Today as part of our well-being calendar we are sharing interesting facts about our various countries. I learned from Paul Bird that the original London Bridge actually sits in the US (Arizona), not London. Who knew? So, let me share a little USA fact that I didn't know. Miniature golf in the US was 1st played in Georgia although I saw reference to NC as well ⛳ Funny enough, we recently played a little competitive round of putt-putt. I didn't win but had 2 hole-in-ones which has never happened. What interesting fact can you share about your country? #interestingfacts #wellbeing

G’day, mate! Did you know that International Cybernetics Company (ICC) has been manufacturing data collection equipment for the international market for over 45 years? We love working with our international clients and are very proud to announce that we recently made our very first delivery to Australia! In honor of delivering this IrisPRO Pave to the land down under, we’ve compiled a list of our favorite facts about this beautiful and wild country. § Originally built to keep dingoes away from fertile land, Australia is home to the longest fence in the world at 5,614 km long. § Australia has 60 designated wine regions, which produce roughly 1.35 trillion bottles of wine a year. § If you visited one new beach in Australia every day, it would take over 27 years to see them all. § Brisbane hosts the world championships of cockroach racing every year. § Australia is the only continent in the world without an active volcano. § The largest Greek population in the world outside of Athens in Greece can be found in Melbourne Victoria. § An Australian man once tried to sell New Zealand on eBay. § The Australian Alps get more snowfall than Switzerland. § Australia gave women the right to vote in 1902 and was the second country to do so. § And finally, ICC Principal Pavement Engineer James Erskine hails from Australia – Sydney, to be exact! Which fact is YOUR favorite? #PavementCondition #DataCollection #InfrastructureManagement #PavementManagement #PMS #SustainableRoads #IrisPROPave #Pavements #Survey #Australia

Last month I entered the “lottery” to get a place in one of the most famous and world’s toughest ultrarunning events. It’s my second time entering. The first time I had a 0.4% chance of a place, this time it’s roughly double. There is 140 places and it’s very rare for New Zealander’s to gain the opportunity to compete. To nab a ticket I needed to complete New Zealand’s hardest 100 miler event, the Northburn ultra mountain run, within the 48 hour cutoff. This year was my second time completing Northburn in a time of 33 hours. The Hardrock 100 ascends over 10,000 metres over 160 kilometres at an average elevation of 3,350 metres, topping out at the 4,280-metre Handies Peak. For reference New Zealand’s highest mountain, Mount Cook, is 3,700 metres. So you’re probably thinking why train and run such a ridiculous distance to have such a small chance of competing in an event that’s so incredibly tough. My answer is - it’s all about the journey, not the destination. “It’s not the destination, it’s the journey” is a quote famously attributed to Ralph Waldo Emerson the American philosopher. The irony in this is until you’ve walked the journey you’ll never understand or appreciate it. Do you have a journey to share? #adventure #motivation #perseverance #persistence

Six coastal nations were represented when the marine resource group of the North Sea Commission visited my home place Austevoll. They visited, among other places, the Austevoll vidaregåande Skule, Austevoll Seafood ASA , the Institute of Marine Research (IMR), Norway, Bekkjarvik Gjestgiveri Hotel & Suites, several fishing ports in the municipality, and were on board the school boats MS Stø Kurs and MS Skulebas. Although coastal zones and business are different in Belgium, the Netherlands, Scotland, Denmark, Sweden and Norway, there are many common learning points, especially when it comes to cooperation between education, research and business. The aim of the gathering is to create networks and share information on marine matters between regions and counties around the North Sea.

'The Greens think they're a law unto themselves' Is it possible for The Greens to ever be wrong? I agree with some people on some things and other people on other things. Only when they say logical things. Whenever someone says something illogical I do have to say: please be logical. What are the logistics? Where is the data? Is it reliable? Is it ACCCURATE AND VERIFIED AND VERIFIABLE? Or are we PRETENDING SOMETHING? If the Greens can justify what it is they say, let's all listen to why. And let's all let them say anything they think we should all hear. Government is there to govern us AS BEST AS THEY POSSIBLY CAN BASED ON THE VERY BEST INFORMATION. THE VERY MOST VERIFIABLE FACTS. What else could they be there for? What else SHOULD they be there for? According to who? Why would anyone disagree? HOW COULD ANYONE BELIEVE ANYONE WHO DISAGREED? Either you say logical and provable and wise things we should listen to, or you don't. Either you say things that improve our lived experience in our community or you don't. Either you help or you don't. Either you speak with us or at us. Either you speak truths or things that aren't truths. Either you can prove why you say what you say or you can't. Either you love your electorate or you love someone or something else. More than them. Either you work for the people you represent or you do not. Either you work hard or you don't. I love community law. But they don't attract the best people. So our principal solicitor used to come back from meetings wondering why she felt so bad for quitting corporate law. Why? All the women at the meeting were sleeping. Physically, some of them. Mentally, EVERYONE WAS ASLEEP IN COMMUNITY LAW WHEN I SAW THEM. Their heart was well intentioned but MY GOD WHAT WERE THEY ACTUALLY DOING? DOTTERY WEIRDOS. FLUFFY CONVERSATIONS THAT WERE ALL HEART AND NO BRAIN. I love the corporate world, the art world, and humans who are VERY CAPABLE. THE WORLD CANNOT BE SAVED BY YOU BECAUSE YOU WEAR A SILLY HAT. OR A STUPID JACKET. OR IDENTIFY WITH A STUPID STICKER ON YOUR STUPID CAR. THE WORLD NEEDS PEOPLE WHO KNOW HOW TO FIX THE WORLD. OR NO? WHAT SOCKS AND SANDALS SHOULD THEY WEAR? WHAT DUMB HIPPIE SHIT SHOULD THEY SAY. Bob Dylan hated pretenders. Me too. I love environmental activists who KNOW 1. WHAT SUSTAINABILITY IS. 2. WHAT TERMS MEAN. 3. HOW TO PROBLEM IDENTIFY. 4. HOW TO PROBLEM SOLVE. 5. HOW TO RESEARCH WELL. 6. HOW TO MAKE MONEY TO INVEST IN SOLUTIONS THAT WORK. 7. HOW TO ASSESS RISK. 8. HOW TO CALCULATE DAMAGE. 9. HOW TO BALANCE A SPREADSHEET WITH HONESTY AND INTEGRITY. 10. HOW TO COMMUNICATE RESPECTFULLY. 11. HOW TO COLLABORATE WITH ALL PEOPLE. 12. WHO TRY TO SAVE THE LIVES OF ALL HUMANS. EVEN IF YOU DON'T DRESS LIKE A SHITTY WIZARD OF WEED BROWNIES. 13. WHY FASHION AND CREDIBILITY MATTER. 14. WHY LOGIC IS THE ONLY THING THAT WILL LOGICALLY SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT. 15. WHY MAKING MONEY TO INVEST IN ENVIRONMENT-SAVING SOLUTIONS IS THE ONLY WAY TO DO IT. Or, no?
