From the bottom of our hearts, here’s how you can help: For you to buy your ticket NOW instead of waiting until last minute. Introduce use to your employer or institution and encourage them to partner or exhibit. That’s what we need. And you can do it with a *SINGLE* click: https://lnkd.in/ev3JJKQd Running this show is hard. It is so much more than picking a date and a venue and calling it a day. Sabrina and Carlie DEFINITELY agree with me on this. The “little” things like keeping the website up to date, designing and scheduling hundreds of social media graphics and posts across half a dozen platforms, creating an agenda, securing more than 200 speakers and keeping them updated and prepared take so much effort. Identifying, contacting, convincing, and confirming the dozens of partners and exhibitors it takes to afford the event. Filling out dozens of federal speaker request forms, navigating an uncertain federal budget, answering hundreds of emailed questions a week on things like “What drinks will be available at lunch,” It’s a lot. And we haven’t even gotten to the part where we convince people to actually show up. 😉 We love making #NatSecGirlSquad come to life and we love how many people get involved, it is incredible. I hosted a session where hcma 's Fiona and Rance along with Mhairi from Sooke District #62 presented some fantastic new research into the implementation of accessible design into schools. Here are the key take-aways: ♿ The cost to include accessible features when considered at the beginning of the project is minimal and considered insignificant. ♿ The cost of renovating to add accessible features is expensive. ♿ Future-proofing schools means they can be flexible and easy for staff to adapt to respond to both individual student's needs and for new approaches in teaching approaches. ♿ Meaningful access is only one way of making sure school communities are inclusive. These both reflect the surrounding community and provide a significant location where young people learn who they are and how they can be their best, especially those with disabilities. ♿ The school community includes students with disabilities and teachers and staff with disabilities, and other visitors to the school with disabilities. All representation and participation matters. ♿ Currently budgets for accessible features is embedded within the general budget and these tend to be cut in favour of a new roof or upgrading the heating system. A dedicated fund should be created for accessible design, as for green design. I look forward to what we will learn next year! #APN2025
