🚨 Exciting Developments in European Energy Infrastructure! 🚨 The Spanish government has officially greenlit the construction of a critical segment of the H2MED project, marking a major milestone in building Europe's future energy backbone. 🇪🇸🔋 H2MED aims to transport 2 million tonnes of green hydrogen by 2030, accounting for 10% of the EU’s consumption. This ambitious project will connect Portugal, Spain, France, and Germany, with a strategic undersea pipeline linking Barcelona and Marseille to avoid the Pyrenees. Spain's Council of Ministers has authorized Enagás to begin construction, operation, and maintenance of the hydrogen networks and underground storage facilities under IPCEI. This includes: - The CelZa connection between Portugal and Spain 🌍 - Domestic hydrogen infrastructure in Spain, including northern storage units 🏭 - The BarMar interconnection between Spain and France 🇫🇷 On June 25, Enagás, GRTgaz, Teréga, and OGE signed a joint development agreement for the BarMar connection. Additionally, Enagás and REN have formalized a reinforced memorandum of understanding for the CelZa development. 🌟 As part of Latvia's trade mission to the US, the delegation attended Gastech 2024 in Houston, the largest and most influential event in natural gas, liquefied natural gas (LNG), hydrogen, climate technologies, energy manufacturing, and low-carbon solutions. 🔋 This year's conference focused on hydrogen technology as a clean energy solution, and several significant projects in this field have already been proposed in Latvia. 🤝 At Gastech, Minister of Economics Viktors Valainis, alongside entrepreneurs, engaged with several companies, identifying key opportunities for collaboration. Notably, an agreement to double diesel fuel supplies to Latvia was secured, which will optimize the use of Latvia's port infrastructure, boost competition, and enhance supply security. 💬 Raivis Bremsmits, Director General of LIAA, highlighted: "Companies in the oil and natural gas markets are exploring new niches to sustain their market share. This is truly remarkable: Natural hydrogen is entering a new phase. Natural Hydrogen is now recognized as an important topic by the International Energy Agency's Hydrogen Technology Collaboration Program (https://lnkd.in/dJgrmm-H). The IEA H2TCP 97th ExCo Meeting in Vienna validated the creation of a TASK named "Natural Hydrogen". The TASK 49 brings together 31 experts representing 16 countries to act jointly on research and monitoring actions, and on proposals in the fields of research, exploration/production methods, evaluation of economic reserves, public policy, public acculturation, financing, infrastructures and environmental impacts.   https://lnkd.in/eg64hYEc
