A southern province welcomes a carbon fiber factory project worth nearly 1 billion USD from a Korean chaebol Hyosung, a South Korean conglomerate, is continuing to expand its investment in Vietnam. One of the company's key projects in Vietnam is a carbon fiber plant in Phu My 2 Industrial Park, Phu My City, with a total investment of nearly $1 billion. At a meeting with the leadership of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province, representatives of Hyosung Vietnam Company Limited said that the project is expected to be implemented in the 2023-2025 period. The initial investment of about $160 million will focus on building the plant, purchasing equipment, and training personnel. On behalf of the provincial leadership, Chairman of the People's Committee Nguyen Van Tho welcomed Hyosung Group's continued investment in Ba Ria-Vung Tau. The province pledged to support the company in expediting the implementation of the project. Hyosung is one of the largest multinational corporations in South Korea, operating in a variety of industries, including chemicals, fibers, textiles, and automobiles. The company has already invested in Vietnam with a total investment of about $3.5 billion. At the Vietnam-Korea Business Forum, Hyosung Group Chairman Cho Hyun Joon said that Hyosung considers Vietnam to be a strategic and key market, and that the group will continue to expand its scale and pursue sustainable development in Vietnam in the future, especially in high-tech industries. Hyosung's investment in Vietnam is a testament to the strong growth of economic cooperation between the two countries. The LG Innotek project, led by LG Innotek Vietnam Hai Phong Co., Ltd., has been adjusted to increase its capital by an additional $1 billion from 2023 to 2025, raising the total investment capital of the project to over $2.051 billion. On June 26, the People’s Committee of Hai Phong City held a conference to grant a second adjusted investment registration certificate for the LG Innotek project. The LG Innotek Hai Phong Factory (in the Trang Due Industrial Zone), led by LG Innotek Vietnam Hai Phong Co., Ltd., was granted an investment registration certificate by the Management Board of Hai Phong Economic Zone in 2016 and officially went into operation in 2020. When the V3 plant starts production, it is expected to create an additional 2,600 jobs, with anticipated annual profits of $400 million and contributing VND 100 billion annually to the local budget. According to Le Tien Chau, among 42 countries and territories that have registered FDI projects in Hai Phong, South Korea leads in terms of both the number of projects and investment capital (173 projects with a total registered capital of $9.65 billion, accounting for 20.92% of the total investment projects in the city). The LG Group projects are the most representative, with a total investment capital of $7.24 billion, accounting for over 37% of the total FDI in the city.
