#ADIPEC2023 drew to a close yesterday after breaking the record with over 184,000 visitors from 160 different countries. Gneiss Energy is honoured to have attended such an inspiring event that brought together over 2,200 #energy companies, more than 40 ministers and 120 CEOs from all around the world. Hugely productive couple of days nurturing existing relationships and investing time in forming new ones. Balki Iyer, the COO & Executive Lead of e-Zinc, shared enlightening insights during his discussion. He conveyed a thought-provoking perspective that carbon dioxide is becoming the new equivalent of manure. Amid the widespread discussions about renewables, he acknowledged the accompanying challenges. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of responsible electrification for sustainable growth, highlighting the need to avoid solving one problem while inadvertently creating another. The #EnergyTransition brings together international institutions, countries, and the industrial sector in the crucial challenge of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Snam has pledged to achieve #CarbonNeutrality by 2040, and to realize this goal, we have established a robust framework of expertise, which includes a focus on #hydrogen production, transport, and utilization.   Our DECTES team (DECarbonization TEchnologies Solutions) has actively participated in European calls since 2020. Over the past four years, we have been awarded 17 research projects supported by European funds. This year Snam has triumphed in securing 5 projects endorsed by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership Joint Undertaking programs, a key component of #HorizonEU – Europe’s principal funding program for #research and #innovation. #energytoinspiretheworld

The energy transition is a materials transition. Weaning our economy off fossil fuels and switching to a green and digital future is a metal and mineral-intensive undertaking, which involves an unprecedented increase in demand for the materials key to it. 🔦 With the event “Global cooperation on clean energy innovation: the role of critical raw materials” at #COP28UAE, the European Commission put a spotlight on the pivotal role of critical raw materials, with MI’s member country Germany (Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz) highlighting a great example for international collaboration under the umbrella of MI: the Initiative M4E (Materials for Energy). 💡 Accelerating the global energy transition requires a massive increase in wind power and solar photovoltaic (PV) installation, batteries, and hydrogen to store electricity and to power vehicles, and heat pumps for energy-efficient heating and cooling. All this demands for critical and strategic raw materials, many of which are also in demand for the technologies required to fulfil strategies for digitalisation and defence & aerospace. The roundtable discussion with Rosalinde van der Vlies, Roland Roesch, Dr. Christine Falken-Großer, Adel El Gammal, Piotr Szymański and Janez Potočnik covered the key challenges of securing and sustainably managing the supply.
